Standard Bank Group is very active in the commodities business globally and has a team focused in Americas. Commodities and natural resources are core areas of the bank and its business strategy.

Prime purpose of this role
 
Sales marketing and structuring of Brazilian and Latin American clients related to Base Metals markets, including but exclusive to derivatives and physical finance products. The role is one of Coverage of American (North and South) corporate clients understanding their Base Metal exposures and working with them to define appropriate hedging strategies. The role is to carry that information and liaise with the trading desk to ensure best execution occurs in a timely manner and to work with other sales people to offer a complete client coverage solution

Main Responsibilities
• Nurture the existing Latin American corporate client base for Base Metals
• Identify new trends and work out the best way to capitalise upon Base Metal trends throughout Latin America
• Keep Standard Bank relevant in the Base Metals space in Latin America
• Travel to and spend time with the Brazilian, Peruvian and Chilean customers: identify their base metal needs and structure appropriate hedging strategies with them
• Identify and propel the physical Base Metal strategy throughout Latin America identifying key sourcing opportunities with producers throughout the region
• Using the knowledge of the existing customers in Latin America, identify and capitalise on the bank’s ability to provide funding and pre-payment opportunities to guarantee flow of Base Metal finished and semi finished goods

Experience/Qualifications Required

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required with business, finance or economics concentration
• Experience in sales and finance departments with deep understanding of LME and Precious metals markets, both in physical and derivative forms.
• Background in commodities and financial markets, including knowledge on Brazilian and Latin American markets and companies specifications 
• Personal knowledge and acquaintance of the key decision makers and executors of Base metals business throughout corporate Latin America
• Multi-lingual with strong communication skills (Portuguese, Spanish and English)
• Work effectively within different teams and support areas
• Advanced PC skills/MS Office suite of product
• Excellent internal and external client relationship management and problem-solving skills
• Superior interpersonal skills and verbal/written communications skills
