JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Behavioral Health Specialist-Bilingual
Classification: Exempt
Responsible to: Director of Behavioral Health Services
Position Summary: Provides clinical consultations with medical providers and brief intervention and psychotherapy services to primary care patients. Services include, but are not limited to: crisis intervention, individual, couple, family and group psychotherapy.
Position Responsibilities
· Provides direct support to clinic medical staff
· Provides brief intervention and psychotherapy as needed
· Conducts initial patient assessments
· Conducts psychosocial assessments
· Develops treatment plans
· Writes and maintains progress notes for all encounters
· Maintains and updates client record
· Makes appropriate referrals for clients, including psychiatric (within or outside of agency)
· Obtains client records when needed (medical, MHMRA, etc)
· Develops group curriculum
· Performs case management duties as necessary
· Participates in meetings with grant participants and funders if/when requested by management
· Maintains monthly statistics; other duties as assigned and abides by agency’s policies and procedures and Behavioral Health Department Policies and Procedures.
Education: Master’s or higher degree in Counseling, Education, Psychology or Social Work
Experience: Previous counseling experience preferred, including experience in the medical field and working with mental health issues, families, groups, and diverse cultural, ethnic and socio-economic settings.
Requirements: Licensed to provide therapy by state board pertaining to individual’s profession (LPC, LMFT, LCSW, Psychologist); bilingual (Spanish); valid driver’s license; reliable transportation; and abides by respective licensing board Code of Ethics.
Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of DSM-IV; knowledge of different counseling methodologies and techniques.
Skills: Strong assessment skills, strong clinical skills, strong cultural competence, and basic casework skills (referrals, advocacy) and strong verbal and written skills.
Abilities: Flexibility to be able to work in different work settings and environments, ability to work as part of multi-disciplinary team, ability to provide vision, feedback and creativity to a growing and changing mental health department.
Environmental/Working Conditions: Will need to adapt to various work spaces - exam rooms, ECC offices and, if necessary, client’s homes.
Physical/Mental Demands: Mentally challenging position due to continuous exposure to extreme issues and mental health issues.
