Specific Job Description The BM Instructor will provide instruction in: Deck Maintenance, Marlinspike Seamanship, Nautical/Administrative Publications, Gyro Compass and Radar, Navigation Rules of the Road, Radio Communications, Aids to Navigation Systems, Unit Logs Administration, Honors and Ceremonies, Boatswain?s Pipe, Leadership and Team Coordination Fundamentals, Basic Rescue and Survival Equipment, Physical fitness as required for Boat Crewman qualification, and Navigation and Piloting. ? Must possess experience as Quartermaster of the Watch, or Deck Watch Officer, or Coxswain, or civilian equivalency. Instructional expertise includes: Deck Watch Officer Navigation Rules Exam; expert in the field of shipboard navigation to include celestial observations. Instructional knowledge and expertise includes: Possessing experience as Quartermaster of the Watch or Deck Watch Officer or Coxswain or civilian equivalency ? Perform all tasks in a traditional classroom setting and/or while underway on a Coast Guard vessel; be physically capable of performing tasks associated with the role of an able body seaman. ? Applicants must be able to perform as an instructor while underway for 6-8 hours per day year round. Personal protective gear would be provided by the Coast Guard.
