Role synopsis 

The Business Management Information (BMI) Analyst will join London Business MI team and reports to the London Business MI Lead.  The London BMI team is an integral part of the Product Control team and in addition, will function within a Global BMI network, which includes other regions.

The London BMI team is accountable for the MI reporting and variance commentary of Gross Margin, Working Capital and Cash analysis in alignment with the Front Office Global Commodity structure and Regional Treasury structure. The BMI team is supported in our other Offices (Singapore, London and Chicago) by our regional MI tags.

The BMI Cash analyst role requires a hands-on approach and is a key reporting position; interfacing with Treasury, Settlements, Accounts, and other product controls team including the regional BMI Teams. The position will assist in the delivery of quality MI Cash forecasting, reporting and variance analysis to the business whilst supporting a One Finance approach.

The candidate must have very strong analytical and IT skills coupled with excellent communication skills, and possess an ability to co-ordinate efforts among many functional teams such as Product Control Benches, Treasury, Settlements, Accounts and other Regional BMI teams. The post requires a good understanding of trading operations, trading strategies and the ability to apply financial and accounting skills in a trading environment. Strong knowledge of SAP is a must. The post-holder must assist the BMI Lead in managing key interfaces with major stakeholders, including the CFO, Treasury and Central PPM team.

The successful applicant will have a strong bias for performance and the ability to implement and support change, ensuring a consistently high standard of management information and control within the global BMI Team.

Key accountabilities 

- Produce weekly cash forecast for 3 months and work closely with regional Commodity Product Control Bench tags to produce the forecasts.

- Produce Cash Analysis reports, work with Product Control, Operations, Settlements and Credit teams to conduct variance analysis to identify root causes, strengthen understanding of Cash drivers.

- Support the preparation, improvement and tracking to monitor Cash metrics.

- Generate Global templates to consolidate Regional/ Commodity MI Cash data.

- Assist BMI Lead in managing stakeholders expectation.

- Perform testing for new Cash database and suggest improvements.

Essential criteria qualifications

- Business experience in financial accounting and/or control within a trading environment.

- Financial Accounting skills - IT (systems) skills (SAP, Business Objects, Excel Access).

- Strong Analytical skills (the ability to grasp and communicate complex trading concepts into their economic effects (i.e. Cash Settlement).

- Attention to detail (ability to work with huge volumes of transactional data and properly control, report and communicate Cash activity).

- Ability to perform in a very deadline orientated environment.

- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate complex issues simply; ability to co-ordinate data and information among various teams.

- Ability to act quickly and decisively in a complex and changing environment, prioritise and cope with ambiguity and uncertainty.

- Track record of delivering process change.

Desirable criteria qualifications

- Understanding Trading Industry External Markets – Understands regularly uses market terminology. Demonstrates knowledge of basic transactions within the industry. Able to interpret explain the influencing market factors their related relationship to the fundamentals financial results.

- Regulatory Compliance Assurance - Is aware of the need to able to escalate issues is necessary.

- Credit Risk Management – Familiar with credit terms processes. Has acquired an acceptable level of competence in credit analysis to understand the rationale behind the conclusions. Follows procedures as instructed inquiries when unfamiliar with process.
