Business Oversight and Control Officer – Vice President recruitment

Works within a team of qualified professionals in the provision of business, legal compliance and risk solutions for discretionary portfolio management services.

Responsibilities include the diligent performance and accurate completion of the following:

• Assisting in the planning, implementation and supervision of effective procedures and controls including ensuring the completion of the AAF within GIS’ Discretionary business in London, US and Europe.

• Co-ordinating and jointly conducting the European Chief Investment Officer’s review programme of PWM’s discretionary managers in London, Zurich and US

• Writing up findings and follow up with discretionary managers.  To investigate / action items raised in the reviews.

• Conducting ad hoc investment and compliance based monitoring for PWM’s discretionary managed business on business, compliance and legal issues and work with branch administration, operations and Law Division personnel on issues and resolutions.

• Assisting in the review and management approval / sign-off of written materials prepared within GIS for compliance with PWM procedures and regulatory / legal requirements.  To prepare and amend documentation within the business.

• Assisting in training of staff in relation to all aspects of financial services’ best practice, investment and legal compliance training.

• Developing a wide understanding of GIS’ discretionary business with the aim to developing the management of day to day enquiries from members of staff and clients and assist in problem-solving on a broad number of issues relating to the discretionary business.

• To escalate items of notes, errors and possible issues to the head of GIS as appropriate.

• Assisting in recruitment and training of new hires to the team.

• Acting in accordance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements, as explained in the Firm Code of Conduct and ensuring that activities are limited to departmental procedures and own functional job description.

• Ensuring compliance with the firm’s requirements in respect of training and competence as notified from time to time.

• Maintaining comprehensive, timely and accurate records for all clients in accordance with PWM’s and GIS procedures.

• Acting in accordance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements, as explained in the Firm Code of Conduct and ensuring that activities are limited to departmental procedures and own functional job description.

• Treating customers fairly on a consistent basis in accordance with PWM’s systems and control arrangements.

• Fulfilling the standards of expected behaviour required of you as a FSA Approved Person

Skills Required
• The candidate should be a strong self-starter with a good degree of motivation and enthusiasm and should come from a legal, compliance, audit, risk or operational risk background with experience in asset management or private wealth business.  

• The candidate should be educated to degree level or equivalent and a professional / post-graduate qualification would also be of interest.

• The role requires a personable and professional approach, with the ability to work with staff at all levels of the business to ensure that firm standards are met. The candidate should have strong interpersonal and organisational skills.
