SUMMARY:

The Business Systems Consultant is responsible for eliciting and documenting business and functionality requirements for software applications. He/she works with business users, development teams and quality assurance to identify, evaluate, and document requirements that meet business needs. This role typically works on moderate to complex initiatives involving multiple business functions/areas. This role serves as the conduit between the customer community and the software development team through which requirements flow. Must be able to excel in a fast-paced, flexible environment while interfacing with several distinct groups.

PRIMARY DUTIES:
Perform research and analysis to deliver business and functional requirements
Lead and facilitate Joint Application Design (JAD) sessions with business and technical stakeholders to elicit functional, data, user interface, and nonfunctional requirements
Critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, and reconcile business requests to business capabilities
Document requirements utilizing both Unified Modeling Language (UML) artifacts such as use cases, activity diagrams, etc., as well as textual representation
Formally present business and functional requirements to large groups of stakeholders
Enter, manipulate, and report on requirements stored in a requirements management tool
Validate that the technical solution proposed and developed will meet the business and functional requirements collected
Work with Quality Assurance team to ensure that the execution of the test strategies and plans tie back to the business and functional requirements

Experience Required:

Ability to write clearly for technical and nontechnical audiences
Ability to present information, analysis, ideas, and positions in writing in a clear and convincing manner
Ability to communicate verbally in a clear manner to technical and nontechnical audiences
Ability to build working relationships within and between teams
Ability to lead and facilitate requirements sessions and drive resolutions and understanding between various audiences
Ability to lead a group to consensus, solve problems, and accomplish tasks
Experience writing use cases, utilizing and enhancing requirements artifacts
Experience in the use of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)
Extensive experience with different requirement methodologies and artifacts and ability to apply them to different types of initiatives
Ability to articulate technical solutions and how they meet the business and functional requirements
Four-year degree in computer science or related field or equivalent experience
Five or more years in a business requirements analyst role or similar experience with the responsibilities listed
