Category Manager Job in Farmington Hills, Michigan US

Today, our client is in a growth mode and is the third-largest pet specialty retailer in the United States by total system sales, providing a wide variety of food, treats, hard goods and services for dogs, cats and small animals. The company is headquartered in Farmington Hills, Michigan.
The Category Manager will report to the Divisional Merchandise Manager and is responsible for driving both sales and margin, as well as managing inventory for all products within their assigned categories. Below is a list of other duties and responsibilities that this position includes:

- Vendor selection
- Vendor negotiation
- Product knowledge
- Assortment Planning
- New Product Introduction
- Promotional Plans
- Price competitiveness
- Strong written and verbal communication to superiors, other corporate functions, stores, and vendors
Experiences Required:
- Three to eight years merchandise experience with a Retail organization
- Demonstrated proficiency in MS Excel, mathematics, basic retail math and problem solving skills
- Excellence in communication
- Prior retail category management and/or buying experience
- Fashion/Seasonal category experience
- Change agent
- A true interest in the welfare of animals
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Desire to learn
- Ability to interact effectively with many personalities through written and verbal communication
- Degree is required, preferably in business or a closely related field
