We are currently seeking a talented, motivated, and experienced Director of Catering to oversee our contract food service operations at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines, Iowa. 

The Iowa Events Center is a state-of-the-art entertainment destination.  This complex is home to the Wells Fargo Arena, Hy-Vee Hall and the Polk County Convention Complex.   With an arena that holds up 17,000 guests for sports and entertainment events and convention and expo facilities with over 100,000 square feet of meeting space and up to 150,000 square feet of expo space, it’s easy to see why the Iowa Events Center is unlike any other complex in the Midwest!

Candidates wishing to be considered for this position must have the following qualifications and abilities:

·         Bachelor of Arts/Sciences in Business, Hospitality or related major;

·         Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible food service sales management / catering experience;

·         Hotel / convention / resort experience in food service is required;

·         A proven track record of developing effective management teams by providing clear direction, demonstrating leadership and evaluating performance in order to make recommendations for improvement;

·         The ability to oversee and effectively manage all aspects of venue food and beverage options including client relations, event planning, scheduling, food preparation and production, cash control, alcohol service standards and compliance, employee training and development, etc.;

·         Ability to communicate with employees, vendors, client representatives and guests in a positive and professional manner;

·         The ability to manage effectively in a diverse, fast-paced environment with a focus on delivering the highest level of customer satisfaction essential;

·         Candidates must have strong written and verbal communication and organizational skills and professional presentation;

·         Ability to work well under pressure with minimal supervision;

·         Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, decision-making and interpersonal skills;

·         Strong proficiency in computer applications including MS Office, and time and attendance systems; proficiency with Ungerbock is a plus;

·         Excellent attendance with the ability to work a variable event-driven schedule including many nights, weekends and holidays;

·         Professional certifications are a plus.
