Focused exclusively on real estate, the firm's investment approach includes top-down market/country selection and bottom-up identification of attractive properties, companies and management teams.
Job Purpose
The Real Estate Securities Analyst will work alongside another analyst with responsibility for research coverage of UK and European real estate companies. The primary function will be to make specific stock and sector recommendations to the Portfolio Managers and ultimately to the Investment Committee for CenterSquare Investment Managements global real estate securities strategies.
Responsibilities include:
- Macroeconomic/real estate research
- Review and analyze macroeconomic data and general real estate market trends in individual regions of the world
- Read and synthesize commercial broker reports
- Analyze company documents, regulatory filings and sell-side research
- Analyze company press releases
- Participate in conference calls with management teams and other analysts
- Review sell-side research and maintain contact with sell-side salespeople and analysts
- Develop and maintain valuation and risk management models
- Create and update company-specific analytical models
- Track portfolio performance
- Update and track geographic exposure in the portfolio
- Measure risk in portfolio versus the benchmark (using beta, variance, tracking error, etc.)
- On-site property tours and inspection
- Attend sell-side and company-led tours and organize 1-on-1 company tours as appropriate
- Meet and evaluate companies' local property managers
- Compare notes with local real estate brokers
- Evaluate management teams
- Meet with high-level members of company management to discuss company strategy
- Analyze management track record
- Analyze companies' corporate governance standards
- Attend industry conferences
- Ad hoc investment management projects
Additionally, the Analyst will help to support the BNY Mellon Investment Management European sales and marketing teams who are responsible for distributing CenterSquare products. Duties may include:
- Contribute to writing of sales and marketing materials and client reports
- Liaising with Performance Analysis group to produce performance reports
- Update sales and marketing teams on market conditions and trends; respond to requests
- Participate in meetings with investment consultants and prospective clients
Qualifications
Qualifications
- The ideal candidate will possess:
- A finance, economics, or accounting degree from a top university, with a strong academic record
- Demonstrable investment management experience in equities, private real estate or another asset class
- Work towards the CFA designation or interest in obtaining it
- Knowledge of and enthusiasm for investing, markets, economics and general business issues
- Outstanding written, verbal, and presentation skills
- Fluent spoken and written English; strong knowledge of at least one other European-region language highly preferable.
- Superior knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and an ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks.
- An outgoing, collaborative style with a demonstrated ability to work effectively unsupervised and in a team environment.
