This position is permanent full time on a 2 week on / 1 week off roster at Cosmo Deeps Underground Gold Mine just out of Darwin in the Northern Territory

FIFO from most major cities will be considered dependent upon experience

Cosmo Deeps is located 140km SSE of Darwin and 50km NW of Pine Creek in the NT. Leighton Contractors' Resources Division provides the full range of underground mining services at Cosmo Deeps gold mine. Decline development commenced in March 2011 and production activities will commence in 2012. Exploration efforts in 2010 showed significant upside potential in the size of the Cosmo deposits and the mine life is currently estimated at 10 years.

What skills and experience do you need?

·  Experience as part of a production Charge-Up Crew Operator, knowledge of explosives handling, transport, charge-up equipment and shot firing. At least 2 years Production Charge-Up experience and 4 years underground experience

·  Experience in underground hard rock mining techniques

·  Demonstrated application of safe working procedures and inspection techniques

Responsibilities:

·  Select explosives and initiating systems, depending on the drill pattern, rock type and hole dimensions

·  Charge up-holes

·  Charge up and fire stope blasts according to blast plans

·  Handle and transport explosive material in a safe manner, according to procedures

·  Ensure compliance with regulations in relation to handling, transport and use of explosives

·  Assist with the installation of ground support as directed

·  Assessing ground conditions and implementing ground control accordingly to site requirements.

·  Ensuring area remains controlled and personnel do not enter an area where machinery is in operation

·  The successful candidate will also have a strong safety focus and the flexibility to work as part of a team

Other Essential Requirements:

·  Ability to pass a Pre-Employment Medical

·  Ability to pass a Drug Alcohol screen 

·  A current 1st Aid Certificate

·  Ability to provide at least 2 recent work references
