Chief Engineer

Job title: Chief Engineer - Interior/Exterior Trim

Salary/Rate: £60000-65000k per Annum

Area: Oxfordshire

A leading automotive organisation is currently seeking a Chief Engineer for their interior/exterior trim department.

You will manage a technical function responsible for the design and supplier liaison to deliver interior/exterior trim solutions for vehicle conversion from concept through to production.

Main responsibilities:

• To lead a professional, motivated engineering team including design, development and project engineers.
• To ensure technical, quality, timing and budget objectives are met or exceeded for all project within the technical function
• To maintain close communication and co-operation with other engineering function, business development and operational functions.

Technical aspects:

• Set and maintain the highest possible standards of technical competence and quality with the department
• To ensure effective and accurate planning of projects and technical tasks
• Maintain the company knowledge base on state of the art and future technologies relevant to the technical function, in line with the overall technical strategy
• Development of interior system concepts in conjunction with client, in house and supplier design teams
• To ensure application of robust and efficient quality process within the overall engineering design and development process to ensure all requirements are met
• Coordination of external suppliers to support the design and manufacture of parts mastered-on-car during the build process

Operational:

• To build a strong and respected team, covering all aspects of technical project delivery and ensuring all individuals are properly developed, trained and rewarded
• Proactive support of business development activities including client development and representation of the company at client presentations, conferences and business development functions
• Lead the future development of the function in terms of training, facilities, software requirements and budget preparation
• To provide regular updates on project and department status

Person Specification:

• Proven leadership within engineering
• Experience of project management with a proven record of delivery
• Experience of client liaison and business development
• Excellent communication skills both formal and informal
• Able to lead by example, representing the companies culture and corporate image both internally and externally
• Can do approach - must possess a positive attitude and display the ability to identify alternative solutions to problem
