The District Council of Grant is situated in the South Eastern corner of South Australia. Covering a total area of 190,447 hectares, it is bounded to the south and west by the Southern Ocean, the Victorian Border to the east and the Wattle Range Council to the north. It encircles the City of Mount Gambier.

 

The Council area has a population of 8,270 and includes a number of small rural townships. The region is renowned for its premium agricultural land. Farming, forestry and crayfish are the basis of its economy. The District Council of Grant owns and manages the Mount Gambier Regional Airport and Mount Gambier District Saleyards.

 

Through responsible and stable leadership, the council has earned a reputation for being caring and progressive. A unique opportunity exists for a highly skilled Chief Executive Officer to take on one of the pre-eminent regional leadership positions in South Australia.

 

Council is looking to attract a Chief Executive Officer that is able to implement the Council’s strategic plan along with creating and maintaining outstanding relationships with the members of its community. This includes building strong partnerships with local industry and business and with members of all levels of government.

 

The CEO will be accountable for the efficient operation of council encompassing all elements of finance, infrastructure, human resources, community, economic and social planning, asset management and assisting council in delivering the strategic plan.

 

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a high level of skills in management and leadership, community engagement, public relations and finance. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills are an absolute must and an understanding of regional education and health would be highly regarded. Previous experience in obtaining grant funding is essential as is tertiary qualifications in finance, accounting, business or sociology.

 

Council will consider applicants with outstanding leadership skills and experience who are looking to become part of the community where they live and work. A five year performance based contract and an attractive remuneration package in the vicinity of $170,000 is on offer. Council will consider all reasonable relocation expenses.
