CHIEF INVESTMENT OFFICER
Description:
One of UK’s leading financial service organisations is looking for a Chief Investment Officer to join their office on a permanent basis. You will be expected to plan, direct and control the firm’s investment capability using an outsourced investment management model. In addition you will have full accountability for the investment performance of the investment product set and development agenda.
Core responsibilities:
- Lead the governance and oversight of the firm’s third party Investment Solutions provider, specifically ownership of all investment mandates and challenging performance results through a deep understanding of the market context and investment process
- Oversight of the end to processes for delivering appropriate and effective investment services to clients and taking lead cross-functional responsibility for regulatory compliance of the investment proposition.
- Maintain the intellectual ownership of the firm’s Investment Solutions to ensure they constantly achieve the desired market positioning and intellectual independence from the outsource partners
- Management of all aspects of the outsourced solution
- Take a lead role in the development of the Investment product and proposition development alongside the Commercial proposition team and liaising with internal and external stakeholders as appropriate.
- Develop a deep understanding of the investment needs of clients and scan the market for developments appropriate for consideration for the company’s customer base
- Lead the development of Investment solution frameworks including linking risk profiles and portfolio strategies underpinning products that are appropriate to the firm’s target market
- Act as the primary focal point for the firm’s Investments and commentary both to internally and externally. Drive communications strategy to build market positioning.
- Contribute as a key member of the Executive Committee to all aspects of the development and growth of the business.
- Liaise with key internal partners - Chief Economist Office, Retail investments, Insurance, etc - to ensure the company has an aligned view on all Investment related matters.
- Chair the Investment Committee, the key forum to control the investment model and to discharge all regulatory obligations, including directing any external ‘non-executive’ attendees.
- Partner with proposition and front office teams to deliver a strong investment proposition across all segments, leveraging knowledge of industry practices and investment structures to drive client benefit
- Control the development and management of bespoke client portfolios, working closely with the Front Office team in Private Clients
- Oversee implementation of portfolios at client level and the development of improved operational infrastructure to support efficient and accurate client portfolio management.

- Ability to build strong working relationships across the wider Group at Executive level.
Core Requirements:
- Proven track record in Investment Management, likely having portfolio management experience in a multi-asset environment and, potentially, relevant sales/marketing experience in investment management
- Understanding and experience of delivering discretionary investment management services to private clients, including understanding clients’ attitude to risk and building suitable diversified portfolios.
- Understanding of operational and platform capabilities necessary to deliver discretionary management services to individual clients
- Proven ability to develop and communicate clearly and effectively investment related marketing material
- Proven track record of delivery in a complex, multi-dimensional environment.
- Experience of managing complex internal and third-party relationships in an investment environment.
- In-depth knowledge of all relevant regulatory and statutory requirements. Prior experience of undertaking a significant influence Controlled Function
- Experience of interaction with Regulators at a senior level
- Experience of interacting with the Media as a key industry spokesperson.
