CIB Operations – Commodity Operations Financial Settlements Analyst

An exciting opportunity to join the rapidly growing Commodities business working within the operations department in the Bournemouth campus.

Commodities remains a focus growth area for the Investment bank; we are entering new products and markets all the time as JPMorgan looks to broaden its Commodities franchise placing us at forefront of the current boom in Commodities trading.

The Energy, Base Metals and Softs settlements team, located at our Chaseside office, operates between the hours of 8am and 10pm (occasionally later) and expects to handle approx. 1,000-1,500 settlements a month with further significant growth ahead. Our clients are interested in risk management and investment products and include oil producers, refiners, transportation companies, utilities and other financial institutions, whilst hedge funds, pension funds and other investors are increasing their exposure to Energy products. In Metals, JPM is the number one trading house in the market and trades in copper, aluminium, nickel, lead, alloy, tin and zinc. The group has already started to see the emergence of new products being traded such as Agricultural products, Power, Coal, Freight and Emissions whilst still planned for the future is the continued build out of our Physical delivery products, complementing the already broad 'Over the Counter' product range.

Expected to understand in detail the products supported by the group. Responsible for ensuring all deadlines are met and for escalating issues appropriately and in a timely manner. Ability to challenge current processes and identify process / control improvements and implement. Have a professional and client focused approach to their role. Controls and risk focus to ensure the team is operating at the highest compliant standard. Adherent to all Bank settlement policies and currency cut off times. Always lead by example. Achieve and exceed high levels of excellence. High level of client service. Not afraid to regularly liaise with senior individuals within the business with regards to open items or queries.

Job Description

Daily responsibilities would involve issuing invoices, contacting clients to agree settlements via incoming/outgoing communication via telephone and email.

Investigating queries on all trades prior to Settlement- liaising with the business (front/middle office and marketing teams) to effectively and efficiently resolve any issues and to ensure that the settlements are agreed on a daily basis.

Completing all confirmation of settlement invoices on a day to day basis and supporting all month-end activities.

Release of all payments in a controlled and timely manner, adhering to currency cut off times.

Escalating issues to management as appropriate.

The team cover both EMEA and a North American client base.

Applications used within the group are the front, middle and back end system, ENDUR, Invoicing system Lotus Notes and payment system STS.

Qualifications:

Proven ability to meet, and maintain tight deadlines/targets/ achieve resolution of issues and results. Display a flexible approach to work and is adaptable and welcome to change. Works effectively and efficiently with a focus on detail and accuracy. Takes personal responsibility for tasks and actions. Able to effectively communicate both written and verbally. Excellent Telephone Manner. Demonstrates ownership of issues and able to prioritise and respond to client needs in a timely manner. Knowledge of commodities products or Investment bank instruments would be beneficial but not a necessity.

PLEASE NOTE: ALL INTERNAL MOVES WILL NORMALLY TAKE PLACE ON THE SAME GRADE AND SAME SALARY. SALARIES ARE REVIEWED ANUALLY IN FEBRUARY. EXCEPTIONS TO THE RULE REGARDING TRANSFER ON CURRENT SALARY MAY INCLUDE A MOVE BETWEEN GEOGRAPHIC LOCATIONS.
