Our central London based client is the major player in financial outsourced infrastructure support; their clients are all the major funds and they have established a reputation for fast effective and professional support. They are the biggest global player in the area and are responsible for £1 trillion under management.
The Cisco Network Engineer is responsible for being the technical lead and escalation point for implementing and maintaining all aspects of our client’s Network technology. This includes daily support incidents, troubleshooting, equipment installations, reconfigurations and upgrades.
As a Network Engineer you will be travelling to client sites, in and around the London area, to deal with issues which require an onsite presence. This may also involve spending periods of time as a secondment engineer permanently based at a client’s site or supporting onsite project work. This includes daily support incidents, troubleshooting, hardware/software installation and upgrades, new infrastructure build outs and relocations.
On a day to day basis the Network Engineer can expect to be involved in:
- Implementation including deployment and upgrades of network solutions (production and disaster recovery) for new and existing Clients
- Maintenance
- Network production and disaster recovery environment
- Escalation to Client’s Support Team to diagnose and resolve issues in client’s environments; coordinates with internal resources and vendors
This is a lead role so opportunities for training are massive as are the opportunities to be certified across the MS, Cisco and Juniper stack. You will also have responsibility for full network plans including those of new clients in a latency driven environment. We are looking to build a team around this person so those interested in development I would be interested to speak to. I would expect to see several Cisco / Network certifications as well as full product suite knowledge and the desire to learn more.
Candidates MUST have:
- Thorough understanding of networking and distributed computing concepts, TCP/IP, LAN/WAN, DHCP, DNS, VPN, NAT
- Routing / Switching
- Cisco based Ethernet networks (Enterprise level) with Cisco PIX/ASA firewalls, IOS routers and catalyst switches
- Experience implementing dynamic protocols and working in multiprotocol environments
- Experience implementing security using VPN technologies including IPSec, SSL VPN, and encryption.
- WLAN controllers
- SNMP, Netflow, MRTG, and Wireshark
- Financial Industry Experience including familiarity with market vendor application
- Experience with comprehensive layer 1 (media selection, cable provisioning) including Ethernet and Fiber
- Thorough knowledge of IPv4 networks, suitable for 10 – 1000 end users
- Experience of Multi-homed public networks
As you will be client-facing within high profile financial organisations on a day-to-day basis it is imperative that you have the highest level of presentation, communication and professionalism.
My client runs a flexible 9 hour day so you will be expected to work 48 hours a week either starting or finishing late.
