Claims Adjuster-Workers’ Compensation Job in Rockford, Illinois US

Responsible for coordination and settlement of workers’ compensation claims.  Review files and maintain correspondence, as well as work with clients and their employees and attorneys.

 

Reports to the Manager of the department, who in turn reports to the Vice-President of the department

 

Review claims and initiate contact with clients, their employees, or appropriate counsel to discuss appropriate action to be taken;

Review medical reports and determine claimants’ continued eligibility for benefits;

Conduct claim reviews;

Negotiate settlement of claims with opposition (claimant’s attorney) and draw up contracts if warranted;

Respond to excess carriers’ requests on claims status and follow through on recommended action;

Calculate awards for claims which are settled as order is received from the administrative law judge;

Review newly received claims or newly litigated claims and proceed with phone contact or dictation.

 

Meet with clients, account corporate personnel to discuss claims and reserves on an as needed basis;

Attend workers’ compensation hearings and/or meet with defense attorneys;

Attend seminars and continuing education classes;

Assist supervisor assistant supervisor with adjusters in regards to supervision, training development;

Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

Must possess working knowledge of state regulations and procedures concerning workers’ compensation;

Accounting skills, computer skills, and medical terminology are essential;

Must possess exceptional communication and human relation skills;

Must possess strong case management skills;

Detail oriented individual with strong organizational skills;

Must be able to work independently and possess good judgment skills;

Ability to meet Company background hiring standards;

Good attendance timeliness ability.

 

High School or equivalent;
College degree preferred;

Legal background would be helpful;

Five to ten years experience as a workers’ compensation adjuster;

Continuing education and seminars related to workers’ compensation and changing laws and regulations are essential.
