CMBS Analyst, Structured Finance
Fitch’s European Structured Finance team maintains existing ratings and assigns ratings to new structured finance transactions. Fitch currently rates Structured Finance transactions across four main asset classes: Asset Backed Securities, Residential Mortgage Backed Securities, Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities and Structured Credit.
Fitch Ratings maintains surveillance on over 1,500 European structured finance transactions.
Job Description:
We are currently seeking a Credit Analyst at Associate Director Level to join the EMEA CMBS Team. The successful candidate will be part of a team of analysts rating commercial mortgage backed securitisations, both existing and new transactions. The role encompasses:
• Analysing transactions to provide high quality credit opinions to investors and other market participants;
• Implementing appropriate credit modelling;
• Scrutinizing borrower, loan and transaction legal documents and opinions;
• On-site review of underwriting and servicing of transaction originators;
• Undertaking on-site property inspections and reading property valuations reports with a view to forming forward-looking opinions on property quality and condition, running costs, and marketability to occupiers and investors;
• Keeping abreast of developments in the European, and to some extent global, commercial property sector through a variety of sources;
• On-site review of underwriting and servicing of transaction originators;
• Preparing rating proposals for presentation to internal rating committees;
• Communicating rating rationale and state of the relevant property markets to investors and other market participants through press releases, reports, presentations and meetings;
• Working with transaction arrangers, originators, lawyers and other participants to understand transactions’ rationale, credit characteristics and structural features;
• Assisting in the development of research and criteria;
• Participation in internal training seminars, developing knowledge of the ratings process for all structured finance asset classes.
Qualifications and experience:
This is a demanding and exciting role so we are looking for highly motivated candidates.
The successful candidate should have experience in real estate finance and keen interest in European commercial property; knowledge of securitisation structures and more broadly of fixed income instruments is also beneficial. Candidates with relevant experience in asset management, commercial loan special servicing, valuation and loan origination would be at an advantage
Candidates will be highly numerate and analytical, with advanced Excel skills.
The role also involves analysis of legal transaction documents. While no legal background is required successful candidates should be able to review and analyse legal contracts from a credit risk perspective.
A central element of the position is communicating your analysis, both internally and externally. Therefore candidates should have excellent written and oral communication skills in English. Other European languages are desirable.
