Opportunity

The Commercial Team, part of the Equities Business Management Team is responsible for ensuring that MG realises the maximum long term commercial value from its investment assets (people, products and infrastructure), as well as supporting the Equities business with day-to-day commercial business management tasks. This is principally achieved by working closely across the investment and support teams within MG Equities, as well as interfacing with MG's distribution, product development, and investment marketing teams on both a strategic and day-to-day basis. The team is ultimately responsible for agreeing the business strategy and plan with distribution and ensuring that activities within Equities are appropriately aligned.

The purpose of the role is to provide support to the Director of Investments and the Equities Business Management Team on strategic planning, initiatives, and day-to-day interfaces with distribution functions. To support day-to-day commercial business management tasks within the Equities business.

Key responsibilities

* Lead the annual and long-term planning processes on behalf of Equities by working closely with MG Retail and in particular the Strategic Planning team.

* Support the delivery of projects run by the Strategic Planning team by providing input on behalf of Equities. Ensure that Equities' interests are fully integrated into these projects.

* Manage strategic projects on behalf of Equities where they fall under the area's remit.

* Gain a strong understanding of the implications of issues such as product pricing, product development, fund capacity allocation and strategic investment in the business.

* Support the investment franchises to deliver their distribution and product aspirations. Develop a strong relationship with key Retail teams including Sales, Investment Marketing, and Product Development to facilitate this.

* Provide ad-hoc support to the Equities Business Management Team, for example in the production of strategy papers for the MG Ltd Board and day-to-day business management activities.

What we are looking for

* Experience of developing business strategy, and carrying out research and analysis.

* Project management skills; evidence of being a 'completer-finisher' preferred.

* Strong networking skills - ability to work with many different stakeholders.

* Credibility with a senior audience.

* Robust analytical and modelling skills, including experience of building and amending financial models as well as understanding and interpreting financial statements.

* Ability to work with limited data and uncertain objectives.

* Strong communication skills - ability to explain complex ideas and analysis to a variety of audiences. Strong business writing skills (e.g. memos, presentations, letters, minutes).

* Knowledge of the fund management industry and broad understanding of fund management concepts preferred. However, candidates with experience in other areas of financial services with a strong transferrable skillset and who are able to adapt quickly to new environments will be considered.

* Highly flexible and self motivated; willingness to develop own ideas; ability to work independently with moderate or limited guidance.

* Interest in the day-to-day running of an asset management business.

* Clear interest in learning more about the industry; Qualifications such as the CFA, or a willingness to undertake these would be good evidence of this.
