Commodities Credit Officer

The number of new business initiatives and complexity of transactions require the sourcing of additional staff with deep knowledge and expertise across the commodities sector to help support the growth platform. In particular, as the commodities business further develops the precious and base metals franchise, the team needs to acquire/develop general experience with global metals and mining companies and specific technical expertise in reserve and production-related aspects of metals and mining companies.

Key Responsibilities

This person help facilitate commodity business. The role requires a strong team player with excellent communication skills and the technical ability to work on a wide variety of complex deals. They must also be flexible and accustomed to operating in a high-pressured environment.

Whilst the team are willing to consider strong commodities generalists for this role, ideally, the candidate will be a technical expert in the credit risk assessment of Metals and Mining projects and counterparties. They will have recognized industry expertise and in-depth knowledge of due diligence processes, lien-based structures, mining geology, technical reserves assessment etc. as well as legal documentation. There may be an opportunity, depending on the calibre and experience of the candidate, to work on transactions beyond the scope of the business in Europe, Middle East Africa.

Daily responsibilities include:

* Work primarily with transaction deal teams to ensure comprehensive due diligence is completed, analyzed and presented to the appropriate approval authority
* Ensure that the credit report presented reflects all attending risks
* Analysis of deal structure and documentation are a key part of the role
* Act as an intellectual leader within the group, and, in doing so, take initiative and help/guide less experienced colleagues
* Be autonomous and carry responsibility for your own work
* Act innovatively to solve problems in business landscape characterized by fast growthExercise sound judgment - strong appreciation of risk in transactions

Candidate requirements

A successful candidate will have direct experience working in a commodities credit risk function, with exposure to physical products. A solid working knowledge of commodity-related industries, the due diligence process, exposure to various forms of documentation, finance/accounting, and standard derivative instruments is expected.

You will have:

* First class oral and written communication skills; with an ability to present factual information in a structured, clear, confident and concise way avoiding the use of jargon. You should also be able to produce understandable written material of a technical and/or complex nature whilst adapting style and content according to the target audience.
* Strong quantitative skills, with the ability to use a wide range of analytical tools and techniques, supported by relevant business experience, in order to provide recommendations and/or propose solutions to meet business needs.
