Communications Officer Job in Southampton, Southern Uk
This successful organisation is looking for a communications officer to join them in a 3 month contract. Initially a temporary role there is the possibility the role could lead to a permanent opportunity in the future.
- To take a proactive role in providing a comprehensive and professional media and public relations service for the organisation.
- To prepare day to day news reports, press releases, statements and briefings in connection with the Service Plan and corporate objectives and operational incidents, providing timely and accurate information to the media and the Service. The post holder will need to take a creative and proactive approach in dealing with the media, bringing their attention to newsworthy incidents or community related incidents.
- To positively promote a professional public image of the organisation.
- Proactively support and when appropriate, manage, campaigns to promote the key areas.
- Assist with risk reduction strategies, partnerships and community relations. Maximise the PR potential of service events and certain specific incidents through effective media liaison, ensuring a consistently high level of quality coverage.
- The post holder will be a key player in internal and external communications within the department and with colleagues within the Service in respect of information exchange, advice and messages within the post holder remit.
- In relation to external communications the post holder must promote and represent the service to the highest level with all customers and visitors and manage own and business communications in line with the role effectively in order to fully support the department and the Service's Corporate Marketing and Communications Strategy.
- The post holder will undertake an important 'account management' approach to their work, managing 'client' departments and leading on their own awareness and PR campaigns.
- To provide timely and accurate information, statistics and reports for senior management which meet statutory obligations and assist in planning and facilitate decision making.
- To be fully compliant with relevant legislation in accordance with the Data Protection and Freedom of Information Acts and ensure standards of good practice are maintained.
- Establish and develop good working relationships with the media to engage their understanding and support for key initiatives, raising public awareness and support.
- To attend conferences and training exercises (as appropriate) to represent the interests of the Service and develop networks inside and outside of the organisation.
- To engage in the communication sub groups of our partner organisations across the county to ensure that the Service is an active partnership member.
- In order for the Service to communicate with all of its target audiences and have an equal share of voice, it is vital that our marketing and communication techniques keep up with technology.
- The post holder will need to be forward thinking and approach their account activity so that it reflects developing trends by adopting an e-media approach, with greater use of the website, social media and networking sites, and a greater focus of local community websites and newsletters.
