Compliance & Legal Manager (Exclusive Mandate) recruitment

As you would expect, this role covers a broad range of duties including (but not limited to):

• Maintaining the policies, procedures, systems and controls to meet appropriate regulatory, risk management and governance standards, building and embedding additional controls as required

• Performing comprehensive and systematic testing of procedures to meet regulatory, compliance and business needs

• Reviewing new business initiatives and assessing their regulatory implications

• Managing the compliance timetable to ensure reporting and submission deadlines are met

• Advising staff on regulatory and legal matters

• Identifying and monitoring compliance training needs

• Keeping up to date on regulatory developments, announcements and rule changes relevant to our business

• Reviewing and approving all marketing materials from both a compliance and legal perspective

• Advising on appropriate classification of potential customers

• Preparation and review of legal documents with customers or counterparties

• Preparation and review of legal documents for the business such as employment contract or partnership documentation

• Liaison with external legal advisers

• Participating in regulatory and client due diligence visits

Requirements:

• Proven compliance track record gained in a hedge fund, boutique asset management firm or CTA

• Understanding of or exposure to quant trading strategies (beneficial)

• Currently hold, have recently held or be ready to take on the CF10 11)

• Legal training or qualifications (such as a law degree or diploma) with demonstrable legal experience is strongly preferable

• Detailed understanding of applicable regulatory bodies their rules and their requirements, including the FSA, CFTC and NFA

• Experience of working with futures and OTC FX forward contracts or experience of working in a firm with a macro strategy

• Knowledge of CCP would be beneficial

• Strong relationship skills and the ability to interact effectively with the business

• Good understanding of asset management activities and operations

• Be educated to degree standard (minimum 2:1)

• Demonstrate a high level of numeracy and strong analytical skills

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

This role is more focused on compliance than legal and candidates must be able to demonstrate depth of experience in compliance in addition to legal experience to be considered for the role. The client is not able to consider candidates from a legal background looking to develop a career in compliance.

As the firm only deals with institutional and professional investors, candidates should have experience in this area rather than come from the retail or private client space.
