Compliance & Risk Support Manager recruitment

Our client requires a Compliance/Risk Manager with a detailed knowledge of regulations affecting Dealing and Sales Trading within Wealth Management and Banking.

Purpose of role

The company is seeking an experienced control professional to join its Control Governance team, specialising in Dealing and Sales Trading (“DST”). Working directly for the Global Head of Governance Control, this person will assist with the day to day execution of our assurance framework, focusing on the following functions

• Analysis of areas of risk, plus design and implementation of a monitoring framework to mitigate those risks, specifically covering dealing in equities, fixed income, FX, commodities and derivatives

• Monitoring execution of a framework of second-level controls, to include analytical procedures, snap check and control testing. Reviewing the output of these checks and proposing improvements to business areas

• Management of a monthly control forum to monitor risk issues and control gaps

• Covering all aspects of the control agenda including audit, risk event analysis and follow up,

• compliance with regulations and assistance with completion of risk and control assessments

• Performing periodic “deep dives” into specific areas of focus

Core accountabilities

Definition of governance framework: Assisting DST in defining its governance and committee structure, definition of roles and responsibilities and drafting and maintenance of policies and procedures.

Business Control and Risk Management: Core responsibilities will focus on ensuring the management and control environment underpinning the business is adequate and effective. This will be achieved by establishing a framework of first line supervisory controls, complemented by effective monitoring and surveillance activities. The candidate will need to be able to foster productive relationships across the dealing team as well as infrastructure areas such as Operations, Risk, Compliance and Audit. The candidate should not be a theorist – all solutions proposed need to be workable and practical. The candidate should also possess a high degree of dynamism and creativity and expect to be called upon to propose solutions to unstructured problems

Monitoring: Ongoing monitoring of policies and procedures to ensure adherence to the internal and regulatory procedures

Issue resolution: Responsible for handling of risk events (e.g. impact assessment, accountabilities, required steps for resolution, escalation)

Project management: Wealth is undergoing a series of large-scale projects to grow and develop the business. The candidate may be required to participate in or run streams of work.

Role requirements

Dealing and Sales Trading

Knowledge of front to back deal flows and experience of working on a dealing floor will be a distinct advantage

An understanding of the key aspects of regulation impacting on dealing and sales trading is key (e.g.understanding of concepts such as best execution and regulations including MiFID, FATCA and DoddFrank)

Previous Operations / Middle Office experience would be an advantage

Experience of market data / Bloomberg would also be an advantage

Professional/technical experience

The role holder will possess; commercial experience within Financial Services, preferably with a large portion in a risk or compliance role, an in-depth knowledge of the banking industry and a solid understanding of the Wealth Management industry sector and the associated client needs.

Managerial experience

Dynamic, experienced and pragmatic, this person must possess the credibility and gravitas to work with senior members of the DST team, to be able to resolve issues and influence change. They should be capable of working with a high degree of autonomy to build and apply control standards to a global team.

Academic and professional qualifications

Degree educated individual and preferably professional qualification/further education such as; ACA, CFA, MBA, MSc in Finance.

Language skills

Strong written and verbal communication skills are a critical requirement of the position as is an ability to work with people from all countries and cultures professionally and pragmatically.
