COMPOSITES ENGINEER / PROCESS ENGINEER

The Composites Engineer will report to the Director of Operations, expected to be self directed and work closely with the Production Supervisors and other key factory personnel. The primary responsibility of the composites engineer will be to optimize new and existing processes by harmonizing composite production and manufacturing variables. This position will also create or audit ECNs for new projects, and champion the entire ECN process.
Candidates must have a degree in Chemical Engineering and have 3-5 years of successful experience in identifying, implanting and sustaining process improvements in a similar manufacturing environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Monitor all foam manufacturing quality, throughput, and costs for operational opportunities.
· Evaluate and alter existing compound formulations to reduce overall cost and improve quality.
· Developing, evaluating, improving, and documenting our manufacturing processes to produce high quality goods efficiently, using the most cost effective methods and with the aim of reducing the impact of production on the environment.
· Organize plant start-up, manufacturing changeovers, and shut-down schedules in all areas to ensure minimum loss of material, production time, and profits.
· Estimating staffing requirements, production times, and relative costs to provide data for operational decisions.
· Record, monitor, and report quality and material consumption results for each production unit.
· Developing and implementing process control techniques and procedures, including the utilization of SPC techniques to optimize process and product performance.
· Act as administrator for the ECN process, assuring that all projects are being accurately tracked and recorded from inception to timely closure.
· Assist in the development of new compounds and products.
· Support company policies, procedures, goals, and strategic objectives.
Special Requirements for This Position:
· Bachelors Degree or greater in chemical engineering from an accredited college
· Knowledge of manufacturing concepts, including ISO 9000
· Strong analytical and problem solving skills
· Good project management skills, able to prioritize multiple projects
· Leadership qualities
· Ability to work on own initiative, and as a team member
· Ability to work within a budget and time targets
· Excellent Excel capabilities. Strong experience with Word and PowerPoint.
· Awareness of health and safety issues
