Corporate Communications Associate – Media Relations recruitment
Position Description
Corporate Communications professional to cover Media Relations for a range of Morgan Stanley's Investment Banking and Capital Markets businesses in the EMEA region. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to oversee media relations activities for German speaking markets. The position will report to the co-heads of EMEA Media Relations, and will work closely with other members of the corporate communications team and business unit senior management.
Responsibilities:
1) Responsibility for the day-to-day management and co-ordination of EMEA PR programmes for a range of Investment Banking and Capital Markets businesses:
• Working closely with Business Unit management and other Corporate Communications professionals, build on and execute existing PR programme to promote the businesses and products. This will include:
- Developing a rolling quarterly strategy for raising BU profiles across EMEA and securing buy-in from BU senior management;
- Working with BU senior management in London and colleagues globally to manage public perceptions of business critical issues within the BUs;
- In conjunction with network of European PR Agencies, managing and developing the media profile of BU teams and products across EMEA;
- Ensuring BU input into relevant features and industry profiles;
- Refining media positioning and core messages for the businesses;
- Conceptualising, developing and writing press releases and other collateral materials, as appropriate;
- Developing, implementing and enforcing media policy and procedures within the division.
• Develop strong relationships with key financial and business journalists.
• Serve as primary media contact for the BUs; handle all press enquiries relevant to the business and update and maintain the media contact lists.
2) Responsibility for oversight and management of media relations activity in German-speaking Europe:
• Work closely with Germany Country management and local PR Agency to develop and manage a media relations programme in Germany.
Skills Required
• Previous, strong media relations experience
• Exceptionally strong writing skills, in English and in German
• In-depth understanding of the financial services industry, preferably with experience of the investment banking and capital markets areas
• Sound understanding of, or ability to understand, the investment banking environment and therefore an ability to shape and drive the Morgan Stanley agenda with the media
• Proven experience of, and ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with senior media people in print, broadcast and online across Europe
• Proven ability to work closely with and influence senior management to help determine strategic direction, develop skills of spokespeople and prepare them for media activities
• Proven ability to meet tight deadlines and also the pressure of adversarial media situations in a consistently professional manner
• Proven knowledge and experience of German media relations essential; additional EMEA media relations experience preferred
• Fluent spoken and written German essential; other European languages helpful
