Corporate Finance/Credit Analysis – ACA recruitment

So the ability to negotiate with a (very demanding) senior financial executive is paramount!

They offer sophisticated advice to companies (not Trustees) relating to any issues around their Pension scheme. All and any Pension issues fall into their orbit so this role covers a multitude of areas and can be quite diverse. They have actuaries and derivatives specialists to cover the technical stuff – this is an advisory role that utilises the information they provide to identify the commercial opportunities that arise from any Pension issues.

Their work often takes place in the context of a transaction (MA usually) – so an acquisition, divestment, restructuring or some sort of capital markets transaction about which the regulator may have something to say - something that could prevent a deal happening perhaps?

They also offer investment consulting advice - perhaps a company has a Pension deficit and is considering de-risking their position by way of a buy-in/buy-out or similar. Deficits are huge these days and these deals can run into the billions.

Pension Covenant Assessment projects are common too - enabling a company to assess their liability to their pensioners and deal with it in the best way possible. These are IBRs.

All of the above - other than financial analysis and credibility - can be taught and only a very minimal grasp of Pensions is required.

This role would suit an investment banker looking to do something slightly different or a smart accountant/ratings advisory specialist  with commercial aspirations. Maybe someone from a workout background - someone who has had responsibility for assessing the financial position of a portfolio of companies belonging to a bank?

It is credit analysis at root – taken into a commercial context – and driven by Pensions issues rather than investment/debt requirements.
