The Data Specialist / SAS Programmer Senior works in conjunction with the Southern Colorado collaborative care team to design, manage and report on data tables from various sources to support requirements of key initiatives. Responsible for data manipulation, ensuring data quality and integrity through the use of high level SAS programming.
Essential Functions:
Serve as a data expert on all data elements to be used for collaborative care in Southern Colorado. Develop plans for gathering data from multiple systems/sites and combining the data in a way it can still be used for studies. This includes the development of registries/databases, including base definition, structure, documentation, long-range requirements, operational guidelines, and protection. Build and maintain complex SAS routines using macros.

Communicate clearly with business leaders, providers, project managers and various other stakeholders regarding the nuances of the data and provide alternatives and solutions to data challenges. Assist in the interpretation of the data for decision making purposes.

Work with providers to understand and find solutions to data needs.

Work with internal Kaiser collaborative team to design a system that meets the reporting needs of various stakeholders including clinical staff, project managers and leadership sponsors.

Meet deadlines to allow payment to providers.

Work proactively with internal Kaiser programmers, data analysts and other data providers to build strong working relationships. Work with those sources to find creative ways to consolidate data for further reporting needs.

Maintain compliance when manipulating large volumes of patient data, both internal to KPCO and from external agencies. Adhere to the research protocols for maintaining HIPAA compliance when accessing, manipulating, storing, and transferring data.

Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree required /Masters Preferred
3 years SAS programming or 2 years with SAS Base Certification
Experience extracting analyzing data in claims systems preferred.
Health care/research experience preferred
Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems make recommendations for solutions based on independent analysis.
Requires minimal guidance to work and communicate with individuals having varying levels of knowledge and expertise, in all areas of job function.
Working knowledge of the KP data systems preferred.
Salary Range $29.05-$37.06 hourly
