Summary:
The DBA Level I is a member of the excelleRx Database Team. The team supports and maintains the databases associated with the companys core proprietary patient medication reference application. The DBTeam works in a collaborative and supportive environment.
A successful DBA Level I will be trained to monitor the application, have the communication skills to give consistent reports of the state of the databases, and provide over night support on a rotating schedule.
Environment – Scope
- excelleRx has fifty (50) SQL Servers. excelleRx uses SQL Server exclusively for its Database Management.
- The environment supports a three-phased life-cycle: development, testing and production
- The monitoring tools used for mission critical servers are from Idera. They are Diagnostic Manager, Compliance Manager and Defrag Manager.
- Quest software Lite Speed for SQL Server is used for backups and log shipping
- excelleRx uses business intelligence and data warehouse processes to monitor and administer the business
- The DBTeam works closely with the system administration, technical support and software development teams on a daily basis
- Written and verbal reports of database status to management on a periodic basis
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Create primary database objects (tables, views, indexes, etc.) as required by developers or packaged application vendors
- Maintain log shipping (or another method) for disaster recovery readiness.
- Maintain Transactional Replication process
- Control and monitor user access to databases
- Monitor and optimize the performance of databases. Provide regular reports of the state of the database environment.
- Implement and document processes for backup and recovery of databases
- Coordinate and communicate production schedules
- Participate in the regular on-call rotation and other off-hours support as required
- Support other databases/applications as and when required.
- Research new technologies and recommend applications.
- Other duties as assigned
