Database Developer Job in Winnipeg R3B 1B3, Manitoba Canada
The Database Developer’s role is to support development and the reporting team and ensure the availability of business information to support management business decisions. The individual will work closely with application developers and outside service providers to support operations and develop new technology solutions as required.
Responsibilities:
• Work with the application development staff to develop database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures.
• Modify existing databases and database management systems.
• Using modeling software, develops data model describing data elements and how they are used, following standard modeling procedures.
• Test databases and associated programs, correct errors and make necessary modifications.
• Document database environments, standards, policies and procedures.
• Work as part of a project team to coordinate database development and determine project scope and limitations.
• Accountable for contributing to the ongoing improvement of departmental processes, procedures and standards by recognizing opportunities for improvement and initiating action to develop and implement changes.
• Write and code logical and physical database descriptions and specify identifiers of database to management system.
• Review workflow charts developed by programmer analysts to understand automated tasks to be performed.
• Other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
• Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring and supporting database servers.
• Ability to accurately and effectively manage and analyze large volumes of information
• Hands-on database tuning and troubleshooting experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with the sizing/estimating process, information systems development and support, and the preparation of detailed work plans/schedules.
• Excellent understanding of the analysis, design, and system development tools and techniques (Software Development Life Cycle).
• Excellent skills related to problem resolution and system debugging.
Education Experience:
• Post-secondary degree/certificate from a recognized university or college or the equivalent in experience and education.
• MCDBA designation an asset.
• Experience managing SSIS, SSAS and SSRS.
