Database Engineer Job in Riverton, Utah US

The DBE is responsible for designing and supporting highly scalable, reliable, and fault tolerant databases which manage and house various sets of data. We are looking for someone who has sound database design skills working with complex database schema. Expertise with Oracle DB and PL/SQL is required, and experience with other database systems is desirable. The DBE must be very proactive in seeking solutions to challenges whether they require improving and extending code bases, recommending and implementing 3rd party tools, or recommending feature or architectural enhancements. The ideal candidate possesses a blend of technical, leadership, and interpersonal skills. He or she must be a focused and execution-oriented self-starter who seeks direction and input when needed. A customer centered approach with the ability to diplomatically execute within a standard process framework is a must. He or she must be able to think and act strategically and be able to develop productive and collaborative working relationships with a variety of people and effectively communicate complex concepts and ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.


Responsibilities:


• Optimization and debugging stored procedures, functions, views, indexes, triggers, etc.
• Design distributed database architectures using a federated farm of servers
• Support multi-tier architectures where database and business logic interacts with the database
• Participate in project meetings to assist in project definition, assessment, and design review
• Design, develop, and integrate highly complex database systems for internal and external users
• Create, document, and implement standards and /or complex modeling to monitor and enhance the capacity and performance of the database
• Develop Detailed Support documentation in an effort to provide the Database Administration team with tools to administer the databases directly
• Ensure maintenance plans are implemented and maintained
• Resource and workload planning and management
• Provide technical advice and guidance to project leadership teams
• Assist in operational test plans and deployments for applications
• Continually measure the performance of databases against Service Levels and key business drivers including agreed outputs, process metrics, application performance, and maintenance activities
• Research and develop automation solutions to reduce costs and/or increase levels of service
• Assess risk, identify service and system dependencies, and define and implement countermeasures
• Perform database sizing, performance, and load testing
• Flexible work hours are sometimes required


Qualifications:

• BS/BA degree in Information Systems or equivalent
• Experience working in a 24/7 transactional enterprise environment where zero downtime is the expectation, rather than the exception, for general software and database updates
• Solid understanding of database administration concepts, such as backup and recovery, disaster recovery, replication, and role-based security
• Expert knowledge of the Linux
• Working familiarity with MS Windows family of servers and operating systems
• Experience with Java development stacks
• Experience with PL/SQL and development tools, e.g. Toad, SQL Developer
• Experience with ETL operations with heterogeneous data sources
• Experience with RAC configurations and performance monitoring and tuning
• Knowledge of or experience with systems engineering principles, ITIL, SDLC, or enterprise architecture procedures
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal attributes
• Knowledge of hardware and software technologies with 7 years experience of relevant industry experience
• Ability to resolve technical database related issues via solid troubleshooting skills
• Expert knowledge of database security concepts
• Knowledge of enterprise directories and understanding of the LDAP protocol is desired
