DBA Specialist recruitment
Our client, a top global FS institution is seeking a strong DBA to lead a new DBA function inSingapore. This is a newly created role in response to growth and focus inAsiaas a region.
Initially working very closely with the London DBA team and later with theUSto actively participate in a 'follow-the-sun' support methodology, the successful candidate will form part of a 'virtual' DBA team, sharing responsibilities primarily focused on production support and administration, but also to get involved in SQL development and environmental refresh activities. All current members of the DBA team are currently located in London and are responsible for the support and maintenance of all relational production and non production database platforms on a 24/7 basis.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for all Oracle, Sybase and Microsoft SQL Server databases (production and non-production environments)
- Ensuring the 24/7 operation of production systems
- Developing, managing and testing backup and recovery strategies; Guaranteeing the ability to be able to recover production databases
- Performance and tuning of the databases
- Working closely with other IT members on their database requirements
- Providing guidance and aiding developers with SQL queries
- Installation of database software
- Installation of new database applications
- Pro-active system monitoring
- System maintenance
- Database security
- Automation of routine administration tasks
- Monitoring user access and security
- Capacity planning
- Support and installation of various middleware
- Liaising with project managers and developers for requirements gathering
- Working with engineering team on hardware requirements to support the databases and middleware for applications.
Requirements
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate solutions and results clearly and effectively to business users and IT management
- Ability to lead or take technical responsibility for projects and enhancements
- Good problem solving and the ability to think quickly under pressure
- Ideally certified by Microsoft, Oracle and Sybase
- Technically Proficient in Oracle technologies (including but not limited to; Oracle 9i, 10g, 11g, Oracle RMAN, Oracle Developer/Designer, PL/SQL)
- Technically Proficient in Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and 2008
- Technically Proficient in Sybase ASE 12.5.4, Replication Server 12.6
- SAN experience an advantage
- Strong SQL and PL/SQL skills
- UNIX shell scripting
- HP-UX experience beneficial
- Microsoft Windows 2000, 2003, 2008 in standalone environments essential and beneficial to have exposure to Microsoft Windows clustered environments.
- Experience with DTS /SSIS / Full Text Indexing
