Horizon Oil Sands
Horizon Oil Sands is an exciting part of our growth.  Full production capacity for Phase 1 is 110,000 bbl/d of fully upgraded, light, sweet synthetic crude oil.  We will see incremental production gains throughout the completion of future expansion and debottlenecking, with targeted full facility capacity of approximately 250,000 bbl/d.  Further phases of expansion will bring the ultimate capacity to 500,000 bbl/d.

This position is based in Fort McMurray, Alberta and is eligible for:

  •  Relocation to Calgary or Fort McMurray

    Position Summary

    THE OPPORTUNITY:
    To support the successful operation of the Horizon Oil Sands plant, the Drafting Designer - Piping will provide engineering drafting and designing support to the construction of Small Work Order projects and engineering briefs to final design as part of the construction work packages.

    HOW WILL YOU MAKE YOUR MARK?

  •  Ensure design and drafting is in compliance with Canadian Natural engineering procedures and International/Provincial regulations

  •  Perform frequent field visits for visual checks and field measurements in order to understand pipe supporting requirements

  •  Interpret PIDs (Piping and Instrumentation Design) and PID mark ups to generate piping isometrics

  •  Respond to field technical queries and RFIs (Requests for Information)

  •  Use Smart Plant Review PDS (Plant Design program) for drawing development

  •  Participate in 3D Model Reviews

  •  Coordinate with piping stress and other engineering disciplines.

  •  Provide guidance and mentorship to team member

  •  Participate in department training programs and meetings

  •  Ensure that drawings are checked, approved and filed in accordance with the relevant quality system procedures

  •  Utilize the discipline specific PDS, Micro station and AUTOCAD applications to prepare pipe routing diagrams and piping isometric/layout drawings

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  •  Typically 10+ years of related industry experience with Engineering Design and Drafting Technology Diploma or other relevant Degree

  •  Familiarity with and understanding of:
       o plant layout, piping system layout and piping Bills of Material
       o process equipment types, process PID's and line lists
       o pipe support types and applications
       o production of  accurate material quantity take off from piping layouts
       o PDS/SPR/MICROSTATION and AUTOCAD 
       o On-site troubleshooting experience
