Digital Hardware and Software Engineer

Introduction: The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Digital Hardware and Software Engineer.

Job Summary: Develop digital hardware and software to implement novel algorithms and applications in support of advanced radar, electronic warfare, and communications systems development programs.

Duties: Development and implementation of advanced FPGA applications in VHDL and Verilog. Development and implementation of embedded software to support real-time and non-real-time applications.
Investigate and implement novel high-performance algorithms in hardware and software in the advance radar, communications, and electronic warfare application domains.

Required Qualifications:  BS with two or more years of experience or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.  Experience with FPGA application development utilizing VHDL or Verilog.  Experience with modern software development languages (C, C++, or Java) and development environments.  Strong verbal and written communication skills.  Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work independently, and demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
 
Desired Qualifications:   MS in Electrical engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent, with three or more years experience.  Knowledge of state-of-the-art digital signal processing techniques and algorithms.  Experience with Linux or Windows system administration and configuration.  Familiarity with high performance computing including distributed clisters, GPU?s and real-time computation.  Some background in RF, advanced radar, communication, and/or electronic warfare systems applications.
