Sacred Heart Schools, Atherton (SHS) is seeking excellent candidates for a Digital Media / Computer Science Instructor position.

Organization Overview

Founded in 1898, SHS is a Roman Catholic, coeducational, independent school and is comprised of four divisions: SHS Preschool and Kindergarten, SHS Lower and Middle Schools for grades one through eight, and Sacred Heart Preparatory for grades nine through twelve.

Summary of Position

This is a full-time position and reports to the Assistant Principal, Academic Life. The instructor will initially teach a traditional print journalism and print yearbook course with the intent to help the school develop other digital media and computer science courses and help the school transition to an online school newspaper.

Essential Duties

• Teach journalism, yearbook and any other courses that are developed in the digital arts and computer science programs
• Participate in the strategic planning of digital media programs such as the movement to an online newspaper and the development of a broadcast journalism program
• Participate in the Fine Arts and Computer Science Departments

Required Knowledge and Skills

• Expertise in current design and digital media software on PC and MAC platforms
• Expertise in the use of iPads
• Experience teaching adolescents in grades 9 – 12
• Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts, Digital Media or related field. Preferred: Master’s Degree in Education and /or a certificate in design or digital media
• Must be comfortable working in a faith-based school
• A clear understanding of and appreciation for the goals and criteria of a Sacred Heart education
• Flexibility and high tolerance for change and ambiguity
• Ability to develop and maintain relationships with all levels of staff and faculty, and the public
• Ability to be a self-starter and work independently
• Excellent attendance and punctuality
• Team-player with strong “customer service” orientation
• An outgoing personality and a positive attitude
• Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail
• Fluency in reading, writing and speaking in English
• Ability to work well with K-12 students and with adult colleagues; willingness to be an active, enthusiastic member of the SHS community
• Commitment to equity and inclusion
