Director

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside Small Business Development Center (SBDC) provides a wide range of business educational services for SE Wisconsin, with a focus on Racine and Kenosha counties, while accessing the resources of the statewide UW System. The primary purpose of the SBDC is to provide counseling services and educational programming to small business owners, managers and prospective entrepreneurs.

The SBDC fulfills its mission through collaborative working relationships with UW-P faculty and staff, and also business and economic development organizations throughout the two county area. The ongoing relationships extend to a wide variety of external audiences.

The SBDC educational programs and services are consistent with stakeholder requirements. The Parkside SBDC is one of 12 SBDCs throughout Wisconsin funded in part by the US Small Business Association. The SBDC is a unit of the UW-Parkside School of Business and Technology and a partner in education with the University of Wisconsin-Extension. The UW-Extension Entrepreneurship and Economic Development (DEED) office oversees the state network.

The SBDC Director reports to the dean of UW-Parkside’s School of Business and Technology. The Director also has a reporting relationship with the Director of the Wisconsin SBDC (WSBDC) in Madison.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Administration:  The SBDC Director is responsible for the overall planning and administration, coordination, and evaluation of the services to business and industry in a two-county service area.

  1. Develop strategic plans with the staff and ensure alignment with campus, college, WSBDC and SBA goals.
  2. Recruit and supervise employees, and ensure productive and supportive work environment.
  3. Plan and execute balanced budgets consistent with campus requirements and WSBDC grant requirements, including quarterly financial reports.
  4. Develop and implement SBDC marketing strategies, including stakeholder communications, reports, slide presentations, newsletters, web site and brochures
  5. Supervise contract training and research projects

Direct Services: Supervise all educational services to small business owners, managers and prospective entrepreneurs, including counseling and training seminars.

Supervise all SBDC training and professional development services; plan, promote and teach seminars as needed. Plan for new and established market-driven education

Entrepreneurship Instruction:  Provide instruction for one course per semester in entrepreneurship within the School of Business and Technology

Economic Development:  Provide leadership in regional initiatives, maintaining collaborative working relationships with business and economic development organizations throughout the two-county Region on behalf of the SBDC, the College and the University.
