Director, Capital Markets Policy
SUMMARY
The Director, Capital Markets Policy supports CFA Institute efforts to advocate for transparent, fair and efficient markets on a global basis. This position will focus on financial market regulation and, in particular, regulation and policy initiatives relating to risk management and the use of derivatives and structured products. The successful candidate will work with the Head, Capital Markets Policy to generate research ideas and projects and to develop policy positions that will form the basis for responses to legislative, parliamentary and regulatory initiatives. This Director of Capital Markets Policy will also be responsible for generating written and oral content for internal and external communication of CFA Institute positions. The preferred candidate would have a minimum of seven years of experience working with and/or studying swaps and derivatives instruments and is able to communicate complex concepts in a manner that is easily understandable. Location for the position is open to any CFA Institute office globally (Charlottesville, VA, New York, NY, London or Hong Kong), and will be supported by the Head of Capital Markets Policy.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Accountable for generating research ideas and research products, as well as responses to regulatory and governmental proposals for financial market regulation, specifically in the field of risk management, derivatives and structured products.
- Responsible for monitoring developments in financial market regulation with regard to derivatives, structured products and risk management.
- Lead by generating research that informs CFA Institute positions.
- Manage the generation of policy positions in the areas of risk management, derivatives and structured products for the purpose of producing high-quality responses to financial market regulatory proposals.
- Oversee the creation of research project ideas and research projects that inform CFA Institute on issues related to financial market regulation, transparency, fairness and efficiency.
- Support the work of other members of the Standards and Financial Market Integrity Division and, in particular, the other members of the Capital Markets Policy Group, in their work in advocating CFA Institute positions to policy makers and thought leaders globally.
- Closely collaborate with the Head of Capital Markets Policy and volunteer members on capital markets policy issues.
- Deliver high-quality and relevant research that informs CFA Institute positions on financial market regulatory matters, as well as responses to regulatory and legislative proposals in the same area.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of 7 years of experience working with swaps and derivatives instruments.
- CFA charter required
- Fluency in English required, knowledge of additional languages would be useful.
- Knowledge and experience of financial markets and issues, with a focus on regulation, risk management, derivatives and structured products.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including a professional and diplomatic demeanor
- Excellent communication skills including written, verbal, listening, and presentation
- Experience in project management, with skills necessary to interpret what is needed for the success of a project and to create appropriate schedules for timely delivery
- Very high level of organizational and time management skills
- Flexibility in competently juggling competing priorities and changing expectations
- Excellent, problem solving, and analytical skills
- Must demonstrate good judgment and mature business skills

- Full time in the office
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Occasional travel to CFA Institute conferences, meetings and events
