Director – Edible Oils Analysis & Risk Mgmt
Tasks
Commodity Analysis:
- To monitor and evaluate the market dynamics and price movement of edible oils: palm, soy, corn and sunflower oils and wheat, in addition to all related outside markets such as crude petroleum, US dollar index, etc.
- To provide proper recommendations for buying edible oil products. The recommendations are based on generating buying signals using trading systems that incorporate both technical and fundamental analyses and price forecasting models
- To continuously improve and update the trading systems for edibles oils and wheat using:
- Technical analysis as affected by S/D, speculative funds, etc.
- Fundamental analysis and suppliers and consultants views on the supply and demand variables
- Forecasting models giving probabilities of next price move (short to medium term) as explained below
- To effectively communicate with the BUs to get approvals for the recommendations; in addition to making presentations to the decision makers especially when recommending to cover forward many future shipments:
- To update the top management on daily and weekly basis of the edible oils markets dynamics, future prospects and coverage recommendation
- To contribute to the generation of savings to the business units out of these buying recommendations
- To monitor business units oil requirements to ensure coverage
- To investigate new developments (such as Trans Fat, GMO, Bio-fuel, Ethanol, etc.) which affect the company’s commodities and their market dynamics
Risk Management:
- To know how to read price charts and know the technical analysis techniques (technical indicators, charts patterns, etc.)
- To have experience in hedging tools for Agriculture Commodities including taking positions in futures markets, Options and OTC with proper risk management techniques (stop loss, etc.)
- To evaluate each country and BU risks, and take measures to limit/hedge risk
- To work with and adhere to Customized Risk Policy for each of the BUs which takes into account: risk appetite of each BU, type of commodity (Corn oil, palm, etc.), type of sales category (B2C, B2B, premium brands, value for money branding, etc.)
- To apply currency hedging tools associated with business FX exposure, including putting structured FX trading positions
- To be fully aware of Macro and Micro Economics and hedge funds impacts on the futures markets of the company’s edible oils (Palm and soy oils)
- To apply stress testing including market, Value at Risk Model (VaR) and volatility stressing
- To manage the risk from buying palm and Soya oils (and beans) and wheat (due to uncertain volatility of these markets) through Hedging in the Bursa Malaysia Derivative (BMD) and Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) futures markets, respectively. Through risk management one can assure that the company purchase prices are always competitive:
- To recommend buying of soy oil (the futures markets plus basis which is the difference between the physical and futures soy markets), and take positions accordingly for each in order to achieve best buying prices
- The recommendations should be based on an in-depth commodity research and market analysis which includes both fundamental, technical analysis, and external consultants’ views. The analysis will generate a buying signal which enables the company to buy smartly and generate savings vs. the competition
- To manage the risk of buying corn and sun oils by hedging them in other oils markets where they have futures markets (such as CME soy oil futures), and managing basis risk between them
- To communicate with the company’s futures account broker; Keep records of the hedge book and coordinate with the company’s Divisional Finance Department all financial matters related to the account
Profile
- Min. 5 - 8 years hands-on experience in commodity trading (physical and futures) in an international firm or risk management specialized company
- Good knowledge of commodity markets including, futures, options, physicals, freight, contracts
- Superior analytical skills, statistical tests, fundamental and technical analysis
- University degree, preferably in any science field
- Fluent in English – Excellent writing skills
- Highly developed oral and written communication skills
- Computer skills: strong in MS Excel, SPSS, MS Access
