Director, Head of Office – Cairo, Egypt recruitment

We’re expanding into the region and helping to underpin the stable economic growth demanded by the people who live here. It’s a challenging remit and, as a key member of our management team, you’ll make it a reality.

About the role

Initiating our operations in Cairo, you will play an active role in setting the strategic direction in Egypt and will have overall responsibility for articulating and implementing the country strategy. With accountability for the Cairo Resident Office and building and managing the local team, you’ll manage a diverse range of projects – making high-level decisions that will have a direct impact on industry areas as broad as agriculture, municipal infrastructure, the financial sector and sustainable energy. Throughout, you will assume responsibility from the origination and execution, to post-signing monitoring. You will also lead an effective policy dialogue and represent the Bank to senior Government officials; developing key relations in a bid to better serve the people of Egypt in addition to maintaining strong communication with sector/product teams and other colleagues based in London Headquarters. It’s a challenge, both professionally and culturally but one that will have a positive impact on lives across the region.

About you

Extensive banking experience gained at a major commercial or investment bank will have honed your sophisticated technical skills and driven direct experience of negotiating with private and public entities. Having led policy dialogue, you’ll demonstrate astute political judgement, cultural sensitivity and excellent interpersonal skills, not to mention the credibility to represent the Bank at all levels and an ability to work effectively as part of the wider EBRD management team. With sound knowledge of the local region, you’ll be adept at developing, structuring, negotiating and monitoring investment transactions. Equally as important, you’ll bring us a proven ability to lead a large team, have an exceptional academic record, fluent English language skills and ideally have fluency in Arabic.

About us

Owned by 63 countries, the EU and the European Investment Bank, the EBRD has spent 20 years supporting projects whose funding needs cannot be fully met by the market. We have operations in 29 countries from Central Europe to Central Asia, with an annual business volume of €9 billion, representing some 380 projects. Each project is unique, but they all share common goals of encouraging private investment and promoting secure and stable market economies.
