Janssen RD has an industry-leading portfolio of neuroscience programs in development that represent breakthrough treatments for Alzheimer's disease, chronic pain, treatment resistant depression, schizophrenia, insomnia, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, insomnia and substance abuse.
This key role oversees the large molecule neuroscience drug discovery portfolio, which includes innovative programs in neurodegeneration, psychiatric disorders and chronic pain. Key technology foci include blood brain barrier strategies, bi-specific antibodies, novel biologic scaffolds and alterative delivery. The Director will have strategic oversight of cutting edge biotechnology research in Neuroscience sites in the east coast, west coast and Europe.
The Director willserve as the principal scientific mind in setting and voicing the vision of neuroscience biotechnology discovery to stakeholders, opinion leaders, external partners and regulatory authorities. They will select drug targets and prioritize portfolio programs; complement internal research efforts with external efforts; assess and prioritize external opportunities and ensure their success; provide the scientific interface between and neuroscience and Biotechnology COE for collaborations/due diligences; developing effective communication, and ensuring successful relationships in support of business objectives; serve on the scientific lead and governance teams both for Neuroscience Discovery and Biotechnology COE.
The Director willdevelop strategy for leveraging infrastructure and external resources to support delivery of clinical candidates and transitioning them into early development. They will serve as the scientific liaison between Neuroscience Discovery and Biotechnology COE. They will integrate neuroscience and biotechnology priorities and capabilities to develop industry leading programs at this crucial interface, prioritize and evolve key biotechnologies to drive innovation in neuroscience therapeutics. They will employ an efficient discovery model that leverages global research in Neuroscience Discovery and Biotechnology COE.

Qualifications
It is required that the successful candidate have a PhD in a related field of study. The candidate needs to be internationally respected as a leader in neuroscience pharmacology and / or biotechnology. It is required that the candidate be experienced in Large molecules and Neuroscience applications. It is required that the candidate have substantial industry/academic experience with a proven track record in drug discovery in neuroscience; a significant network both in academia and industry; experience in bridging transitions between discovery and early development. It is required that the candidate has 10 years of experience post PhD, of which at least 5 must be in industry. A record of high impact publications is required for this role. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required as well as the ability to identify and develop rapport with culturally-diverse groups. We are looking for a highly motivated, creative individual with the "roll-up-your-sleeves" philosophy and the ability to grow, develop and maintain a high-performing team. Excellent managerial and leadership qualities are required. Charisma and the ability to lead, motivate and inspire teams of scientists while communicating a vision is required. Excellent command of the English language spoken and written is required. This position will require travel both domestic and International up to 25%.
