Director of Print Production
The Director of Print Production is the lead project manager for the department, specializing in new product lines and product types. The Director develops and maintains production policies and procedures to ensure efficient workflows that protect Kaplan’s content.
- Assess and track current and upcoming staffing risks, training needs, and workloads. Establish workload capacity planning strategies to accommodate seasonal products.
- Analyze and establish production priorities based on business value.
- Coordinate, execute, and track staff initiatives of all types.
- Plan and research new technologies and techniques to produce quality products with greater efficiency.
- Develop and oversee production calendars, agendas, and notes for all product lines.
- Establish and maintain a database of freelance talent and vendors.
- Oversee KU PACE’s content management system (Artesia) and drive content teams into the database as the business allows.
- Develop staff by providing training resources to expand their knowledge.
- Drive customer satisfaction by emphasizing quality results.
- Edit and lay out publications to company style guide and template standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher, with at least 10 years’ experience in print publishing and 5 years as a manager.
- Proven track record of leading and coaching staff.
- Effectively able to take complex concepts and identify specific and actionable requirements.
- Strong ability to work across multiple teams/departments to ensure the timely completion of quality projects.
- Excellent organization and time management skills to be able to manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Professional copyediting experience, preferably across multiple style guides.
- Experience with ebook publishing preferred.
- Experience preflighting print products and working with vendors to troubleshoot print file errors.
- Page layout/design experience, preferably in Adobe InDesign. Experience with the entire Adobe suite as well as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe FrameMaker, and Adobe Acrobat Professional preferred.
- Graphics creation experience, preferably in Adobe Illustrator. PhotoShop experience desired.
- Knowledge of online coursework, preferably courses completed in conjunction with print and virtual products.
