The Markit Wire Development Department supports and enhances the Markit Wire trade processing platform.
Position summary
MarkitSERV is seeking an experienced Oracle Database Architect to join the Markit Wire Development Team.
MarkitWire is a 3 tier application with a C++ middle tier and interfaces to other trade repository and reporting applications. It includes an Oracle*Forms-based reference data maintenance application, and comprises a number of databases, including MIS. There are a number of other MarkitSERV Oracle database systems with which MarkitWire interacts.
The individual will take overall responsibility for the strategic database application roadmaps and delivery thereof.
Duties accountabilities
First 12 Months:
- Evaluate MarkitWire database design and identify which new Oracle features could improve performance and scalability, within the context of MarkitSERV's strategic direction.
- Identify what technological improvements can be made to database development, deployment and maintenance; and manage their implementation, including advice on what new processes, procedures and standards would be needed to ensure they are used effectively.
- Act as a MarkitWire Oracle 'product champion' within the overall development effort.
- Act as a technical lead on technology-led products to facilitate the strategic application roadmap.
- Provide design QA to new database related development as required.
- Provide consultancy, working closely with the DBAs, C++ and database developers to ensure the application and database architectures are aligned.
- Provide expertise and actively partake in investigative and remedial efforts surrounding production incidents (both functional and non-functional).
12 Months+:
- Expand remit to incorporate responsibility for other MarkitSERV database systems.
- Improving overall Oracle development technology stack. This could include the possible adoption of OBIEE, and devising a strategy for to deliver the next generation of front-end interface to replace the current Oracle Forms interface.

Education and experience
Mandatory
•University graduate or equivalent in a numerical discipline
•Expertise in Oracle relational database design
•Experience of Oracle performance tuning OLTP applications at an enterprise level
•Experience of developing Oracle database applications using PL/SQL on Oracle 10g or later
•Experience using Oracle AQ and Message Gateway services
•Experience of successfully implementing new Oracle technologies and promoting their use
•Experience of requirements analysis
•Experience of producing technical design documents
•Experience of implementing department-wide technology standards
Preferred
•Experience of database applications using C++ interfaces to Oracle (e.g. OCI and OCCI)
•Experience of Oracle object-relational design
•Experience of developing Oracle Forms applications using Oracle Developer 9i or later
•Familiarity with a Unix environment
•Knowledge of Java and J2EE development, e.g. using JDeveloper and ADF
•Knowledge of Oracle Designer or alternative data modelling tool
