GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Dissertation Editor is a research writing specialist who works to assure the editorial quality and integrity of the University's dissertations and theses, and assist students in their development of advanced writing projects for publication.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Developmental and line editing of Walden dissertations, theses, doctoral studies, and research proposals.
- Drafting query letters to students and thesis committees with instructions for recommended changes.
- Answering student inquiries about project formatting, APA style, and writing-related concerns in researching and publishing scholarly work.
- Presenting face-to-face writing seminars at PhD and EdD residencies.
- Other duties as requested by the Academic Skills Director and Manager of Dissertation Editor Services.
- Work in a creative, results-oriented, team-based environment
- Read, listen, and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing in order to prepare correspondence and provide clear and respectful instructions, guidance, and counseling to faculty and students using MS Word's track changes function.
- Demonstrate proficiency in MS Word and Excel and superb knowledge of APA style.
SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- Sufficient familiarity with social science literature and applied research to provide developmental editorial guidance during drafting phase of graduate capstone projects.
- Superior knowledge of APA style, grammar, and mechanics.
- Ability to edit in an electronic environment.
- Superb analytical, problem solving, communication. Must be detail-oriented and have excellent organizational skills.
- Creativity, innovative, sense of humor, able to work with minimal supervision on several editing projects simultaneously.
- Master's degree with coursework in English or related field strongly preferred; preference given to applicants with strong social sciences background.
- Combined 5 to 10 years of editing, teaching, and publishing experience, preferably in the social sciences, with graduate students.
