- Establish sound drilling safety program;
- Direct the erection, dismantling, moving or skidding of rigs and rigging up at a new location;
- Plan and schedule the delivery of materials needed for drilling, such as special tools or rig components and expendable materials including mud, other chemicals, fuel, water, bits and other supplies used in drilling;
- Actively promote and support the HSE management system to the rig crews and ensures all company policies and procedures are followed at all times during their work period. This responsibility extends to and includes all periods whether on the rig or in the camp quarters;
- Report any and all breaches of company policies to the Base Office and Operations Manager regardless of whether they occurred on the rig or in the camp quarters or when travelling to or from the work site, including travelling in company or private modes of transport.
- Direct and coordinate all of the drilling activities, in liaison with the Operator and other service companies as necessary;
- Assist drillers in solving operational problems and calls in specialists or Operator’s personnel when complex problems arise i.e. Severe kicks or blow-outs, down-hole conditions requiring plan changes etc.;
- Determines and coordinates optimum drilling conditions based on experience, utilisation of data from nearby or similar wells, and/or optimised drilling programs;
- Maintains and disseminates information on the rig equipment and drill stem performance or failures. Such information can be utilised to improve equipment, its utility, care and maintenance practices, and improve the economics of drilling;
- Assist the drillers in training the crews in safe working practices, proper operations and care and maintenance of the drilling equipment;
