Editorial Director, Europe Gas & Power (Platts)
Job Description
The position has responsibility forcontent and coverage of European gas, electricity and carbon markets. This roleis based in London and will manage agroup of market experts, including pricing, editorial and analytical staff .The person will be responsible for helping to shape the strategic direction ofthe group as well as handling day-to-day operational matters. The role requiresdeep expertise in the pricing of commodity markets, preferably European gas andpower markets.
Responsibilities:
Leadsthe development of a publishing strategies
- Establishes and leads the priorities forthe sector.
- As a leader of the gas and power business,regularly engages with the industry
- Speaks publically on Europe gas andelectricity markets on behalf of Platts
- Establishes quality guidelines fornews/pricing and other market-relatedcontent, including data and analysis
- Leads the integration of data and analysis asappropriate into Platts European gas and power products
- Collaborates with other editorial directorsto establish Platts standards, practices and policies
- Establishes editorial quality and operationalmetrics
- Provides thought leadership internally atPlatts and externally in the gas and electrcity industry on Platts' behalf
- Considers commercial viability ofproducts/enhancement to products and works alongside Europe Gas and PowerProduct director
- Leads editorial components of rollout andstart-up of new products or prices
- Develops managerial competency andcapabilities
- Creates succession in the business inconjunction with other Editorial directors in the Power Group
- Establishes managerial priorities
- Integrates staff as required from newlyacquired businesses
- Coaches managers
- Conducts managerial performance reviews
- Initiates managerial training and developmentefforts.
- Leads hiring strategy for department.
- Serves on the power group editorialleadership team across commodity verticals
Overseescontent, and/or price development
- Leads initiatives to develop and maintain anunderstanding of information relevant to the market
- Engages industry leaders to continuouslyunderstand market and trends
- Leads initiatives to develop value-addedinformation.
- Continuously learns and analyzes marketissues and leverages that knowledge around the impact to the business.
- Develops and maintains productiverelationships with a broad base of industry contacts.
- Is sensitive to the regulatory context andhelps the business leverage developments emanating from Europe
Manages change and innovation swiftly and thoughtfully with dueattention to process.
Works collaboratively with the price group and MAQ to ensure thehighest editorial standards are adhered to in relation to existing and newpricing endeavours. Contributes to widerPlatts initiatives and works collaboratively with other Platts departmentsincluding QRM.
Qualifications
Required:
- BA degree with experience of pricing/news/analyticalexpertise combined with management experience; or a graduate withexperience of editorialmanagementexperience.
- Very strong price assessmentskills are essential to this role as well as a broad understanding of thecrucial strategic role pricing plays across Platts. Experience assessing pricesof other energy commodities needed.
- Strong leadership capabilities which leverageinfluence, and promote managerial collaboration and development, as well aspersonal accountability. Strong problem solver and leader of conflictresolution.
- Excellent at identifying improvements andefficiencies and implementing processes that continually promote productivityand quality improvements.
- Excellent communication skills that implementgood listening, clear writing style; and strong verbal skills. The ability tocommunicate across a wide range of groups and personalities internally andexternally.
- Good understanding of finance and ability tounderstand budgets.Leads the development of technical competency withinmanagement and editorial teams (I,e. promotes the learning of essentialcomputer skills and appropriate software).
