The mission here is unusual and not for every electrical estimating professional. We have an aging department and are looking for a successor. We are also looking for an electrical estimator with an interest in and a head for IT. Beyond cultivating the next estimating generation, part of the position will call for helping in the integration of the NEW Timberline estimating module.

 

The Company has used Timberline as the ERM for many years. Having a uniform data base for estimating and project management, and having that reside truly within the enterprise resource management system is a long time goal. The new Timberline estimating system was developed by the same software team that developed the Estimation electrical estimating program. While a full implementation Accubid might provide a few bells and whistles Timberline does not have today, the Timberline software (an enhanced Estimation) is certainly not an obstacle to efficient production but the full integration to Timberline will have vast positive economic ramifications. Whatever the 5% speed lost in Timberline will return 200% in business control and leadership has studied that value proposition for a long time, so that is what must get done.

 

The is a long way of saying that part of the job is building a Timberline database, bringing up the system in the department, assuring 100% use and building the assemblies and templates that make sense. The company would prefer a Timberline user simply to speed up the process, but if you have a passion for computer tools and are genuinely adept, we will certainly discuss the goals with you and get you trained.

 

The company has a strong federal specialties business, but under that umbrella there are diverse work type opportunities. The targets are largely occupied facilities, but the Company has done package sorting lines, airport work and high technology work. We bid specifications, but we employ a licensed professional electrical engineer and perform design and build work as well. The broader (in terms of project types) a professional electrical estimator you are, the better. What is reasonable to say is that we want far more than a person that identifies jobs costs accurately.

 

The competence we are looking for could be called a strategic technical business person. This professional electrical estimator is technical and has benefited from either field experience coming up, or has always been driven to audit the physical constructions and understands how jobs are built. This strategic technical business person is interested in pulling together a solution along with the cost data, gearing up not only to solve the technical problems and generate an innovative, low-cost solution that meets client needs and code, but to develop a capture strategy. Such a person gets to know the clients and comes to understand how to work in a customized personal fashion with specific clients

 

A thinker and listener, the estimator we seek will uncover the authority centers within client businesses, identify individual decision makers, and communicate in a way that makes it easy for the client. This estimator then becomes indispensable where there is opportunity. Such a professional can pull the vendors into clever teaming arrangements.  Finally, the estimating leader the Company needs is a dynamic person that is looking to ceaselessly evolve professionally. This is a person with talent, creativity, a penchant for learning and a pragmatic solutions person. Being a quality administrator and establishing accurate costs for the full scope of an RFP is a very basic expectation. Being a business person is the icing we are seeking. The task of fully deploying Timberline and building the database is a unique assignment and once done, the Company expects the commitment to the system, good estimating procedures and the building of the assembly and template data base. The use of retained history to support accurate budgeting where a huge portion of the work reflects a very small portion of job value is something that will come with conscientious commitment to the system. Long-term inviolable commitment to the use of the system (really any good computer based system), and the accumulation of very accurate square foot data allow solid budgets to be distilled and can be a tremendous time saver where 15% of the estimate’s value might otherwise take 75% of the estimating hours.

 

The firm is relatively (though on the bidders list with the biggest) and the estimating leadership is often the spokesperson for the company and the face the clients see. Client friendliness and politically sensitivity are sought after professional qualities.

PAY AND BENEFITS

 

There are two components to total compensation here: BASE SALARY AND BONUS COMPENSATION.  Base salary will be in the range of $90 – 110K. The lead estimator will participate in the company bonus pool, which is a defined portion of profit and has paid out substantially each and every year in the past 10. It would not be unusual to see a 15% bonus adder in year one and it gets stronger as you gain seniority and enjoy successes. The company provides great benefits and retirement plans.
