Employment Lawyer – EMEA Group recruitment
Responsibilities will include:
- Provide contentious and non-contentious specialist employment law advice and support to HR and business clients on all UK employment matters.
- Where appropriate, instruct external counsel on UK employment matters and oversee management of firm including their advice and costs.
- Manage advice on employment issues in other EMEA offices and oversee management of external counsel across EMEA including their advice and costs.
- In consultation with EMEA Employee Relations, develop and keep under review standard documents and processes across EMEA.
- Provide education and training to HR and the business on employment legal and policy issues across EMEA.
- As a member of the Employment Legal Global Business Team, take on responsibility for cross-jurisdictional projects and reviews of policy.
- Work closely with UBS’ employment lawyers in other regions and locations on location-specific and cross-jurisdictional matters.
- Support the HR Performance, Reward and Analytics team on compensation and benefit related matters, including day-to-day enquiries, development of new products and review/amendment of existing products and plans.
- Support the EMEA Employee Relations teams on day-to-day enquiries and ongoing matters.
- Review UBS employee-related policies, processes and transactions.
- Assistance with proactive management of employment risk generally, including design, roll-out and monitoring of strategies/projects.
Qualifications:
- Significant level of PQE experience (or equivalent).
- Excellent, up to date all round employment law experience gained in a well-known, significant employment law private practise, preferably complemented with experience gained in-house (ideally at a financial institution) whether on secondment or otherwise.
Attributes:
- Outstanding technical employment legal skills on both contentious and non-contentious sides.
- Level of experience and ability to enable strong management of significant caseload to an excellent standard without direct supervision, to include ability to make good judgement/risk calls (including as to whether matters should be escalated).
- Confident and authoritative with outstanding communication, advisory and negotiation skills.
- Strong commercial, business focussed approach based on significant previous experience.
- Excellent, up to date understanding of significant employment legal risks for firms in the financial services sector.
- Strong team skills with capability to work and contribute effectively as part of team.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities on a daily basis and to manage and prioritise work load efficiently and effectively.
- Experience of managing employment legal issues in EMEA countries, both on a location-specific and cross-border basis.
