Engineering Manager – Systems Engineering – Mechanical Conceptual Design
Role of Position
Reports to the Chief Engineer
Is the technical authority on specific nominated project(s)
To manage a team of Designers and Engineers for a specific business stream
Defines the systems engineering architecture for all functions, including the integration of all major subcontracted items
To ensure that high quality engineering outputs are produced to programme, budget and specification. Includes all specific contract engineering documents
To ensure that the system design meets the project financial expectations (design to specification and to cost
To be the technical point of contact for customers and subcontract suppliers
To ensure that the electrical system functions according to the customers technical requirements and legislative requirements.
To ensure compliance to the companys Engineering Procedures, to ensure compliance to contract technical and
statutory product requirements
To ensure that the system engineering design and product are safe and fit for purpose, thus ensuring that the
customers expectations are met or exceeded
To assist in the completion of engineering department corporate objectives
Areas of Responsibility:
· To represent and report on systems engineering matters at project reviews
· To define, manage and present all project system design reviews
· To manage the storage of technical data and rationale to support and validate the systems engineering management and approach
· Produce technical specifications for major subcontract items
· Ensure that test schedules are produced for the system and system components
· Ensure that design packages are complete and are suitable for efficient manufacture and assembly at the company
· Manage Systems Engineering requirements for bids
· Authorise designs, drawings, product build standards and configuration control
· Ensure that all required analyses, demonstrations and tests have been performed to allow product verification and validation against the technical requirements
· Ensure requirements traceability according to the project statement of work.
Ensure that a consistent system approach is adopted across all engineering functions (eg human factors, stress analysis, weight and stability, use in hot and cold environments, component selection, safety, ILS, RM, task analysis)
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Good breadth of Systems Engineering knowledge required and an understanding of Conceptual design.
Personnel management and the ability to delegate. Ability to create a team spirit to encourage efficient output
Experienced Engineer (12 years plus) with conceptual design experience. Working to specifications and budgets. Broad range of engineering experience acceptable, military systems design experience preferred
Degree in Engineering subject. Chartered Eng preferred.
