Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, has an immediate opening for a ENTERPRISE DATA ARCHITECT at our Corporate Headquarters in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position leads the process to define the Data and/or Information areas of Enterprise Architecture for Air Products. The Enterprise Data Architecture and Enterprise Information Architecture establish the vision, strategy and roadmap(s) to manage and leverage data (structured and unstructured) and employ technologies towards enabling the business to meet its objectives and goals.

The Data Domain is one of the four domains (segments) of the Enterprise Architecture structure. Simply stated, enterprise architectures are living documents defining an organization’s current (baseline) and desired (target) Information Technology environment. If defined, maintained, and implemented effectively, these institutional blueprints assist in optimizing the interdependencies and interrelationships among an organization’s business operations and the underlying Information Technologies that support these operations.

The scope of the Enterprise Architecture Team is to define and direct the Enterprise Architecture program in the organization, including defining principles, facilitating the creation of the vision and adopting a framework / process to employ the enterprise architectures. The process is run by a team of senior architects that are responsible to create, maintain and drive the implementation of the artifacts defined by this program. Enterprise Architecture Governance is provided by our senior IT management, including the CIO.

The Enterprise Data / Information Architect is a member of the Enterprise Architecture Team and provides architectural guidance for managing and leveraging data by business processes through information technology. Much of the Enterprise Data/Information Architectures provides an enterprise-wide perspective on structured data and unstructured information, translating business architecture requirements into application portfolio, application development and infrastructure technology activities in Global IT. The Enterprise Data / Information Architectures also provide guidance to the business for developing sustainable business processes to manage data and information. The role is responsible for creating and maintaining the architecture elements related to the Enterprise data and information management processes, working with both business and IT representatives towards consistent methodologies for employing, managing, and leveraging data and information for business solutions.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

This position is accountable for the following end results:

1. Lead the creation, maintenance and implementation of assigned architecture segments (Structured Data Architecture, Unstructured Data [Information] Architecture).
2. Accountability for all architecture artifacts related to the assigned key architecture segments mentioned above.
3. Accountable to ensure alignment between architecture segments and the innovation activities that move us towards our target architectures.
4. Ensure the reliability, availability, supportability, and efficient utilization of Global IT application and infrastructure technologies to enable cost effective use and management of corporate data and information.
5. Participate in our Enterprise Architecture program to define Principles, Target Architectures, Policies, Standards and Frameworks.
6. Ensure global consistency across application and infrastructure architecture areas in terms of standardized use and management of data and information.
7. Participate in external benchmarking with other companies, vendors and organizations providing research and measurement services.
8. Collaborating on the identification and initiation of new offerings (Innovation) related to the data and information architecture domain.
9. Provide application and infrastructure solution consulting as needed from a perspective of data and information management and handling.
10. Adopting and refining data and information management best practices for the enterprise to be implemented in new solutions and maintain viability projects.
11. Promote the concepts of information life cycle management including proper data and information management techniques, minimizing redundancy, improving data and information quality, and fostering data and information stewardship.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Functional experience in IT application and/or infrastructure architecture with particular knowledge in the areas of structured data and unstructured data (information) management.
• The ability to translate business capability needs into data and information architecture requirements, and to convey the application and infrastructure deliverables needed to support the data and information management needs of projects to the other architecture segments.
• Interpersonal and leadership skills commensurate with senior IT levels.
• Bachelor’s degree in business or computer related major and 15+ years IT experience.
• Knowledge of industry standards and practices for data and information lifecycle management.
• Knowledge of key enterprise applications and infrastructure components which leverage and manage corporate data and information, including SAP/ERP, engineering applications, OSAP applications, and end-user business solutions which leverage corporate data and information.
• Knowledge of risk management and security principles and policies, and corporate policies which drive the nature and processes of how data and information are protected and employed.
