Environmental Service Aide

Position Title: Environmental Service Aide

Position Purpose: To provide a superior level of cleaning quality in assigned area to maintain a clean working environment.

Position Reports to: Administrator

Degree of Supervision Provided to Position:
Moderate supervision; supervisor is on-site and periodically checks work progression.

Education, Experience, and Licensure:
High school diploma or equivalent.

Internal Relationships (Works Closely With):
As a representative of Surgical Care Affiliates, all comments, attitudes, actions, and behaviors have a direct effect on the Facility’s image and perceptions of quality service. Interaction with patients, families, physicians, referral sources, affiliating schools, visitors, volunteers, co-workers, supervisors, vendors, etc. must be in a manner that is friendly, supportive, courteous, respectful, cooperative, and professional. This behavior should promote an atmosphere of teamwork, which is congruent with Facility standards and guidelines to promote positive relations.

Job Requirements:
A. Skills and Abilities:
Perform daily cleaning procedures in accordance with Treasure Valley Hospital in assigned areas. Record work on Area Assignment Checklist. Survey assigned area at the beginning of each shift, respond to housekeeping pages, and perform other tasks as assigned by Director. Able to lift up to 35 pounds. Must have good communication skills. Capable of standing, walking, squatting, bending, kneeling, and reaching continuously throughout shift. Capable of pushing/pulling a maid cart/linen cart (over 100 lbs.) on tile and carpeted floors (frequently). Capable of pushing/pulling furniture (25 to 200 lbs.) occasionally. Frequent interaction with hospital employees requires ability to communicate well with others. Be able to work hours as needed per area assignment.

B. Clinical Quality:
1. Interacts with all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees in a mature, responsible manner to ensure a positive and professional facility environment
a. Displays a caring and responsive attitude and conducts all activities respecting patient, family and employee rights and expectations
b. Maintains confidentiality of all facility and patient information as required by facility policy

f. Requests scheduled time off according to procedure as noted by supervisor.
3. Completes all documentation to ensure the availability of accurate and up to date information in accordance with established standards.
4. Adheres to established facility safety requirements and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
g. Demonstrates to competent usage of proper body mechanics in all activities.
h. Identifies potentially unsafe situations and notifies supervisor.
i. Completes all Teammate/patient event and Variance documentation in a thorough and timely manner, as required by policy.
j. Demonstrates complete understanding of established emergency procedures for facility.
k. Practices infection control, standard precautions and universal precautions as instructed or trained.
l. Maintains work area and equipment in a neat, organized manner.
5. Completes appropriate financial management responsibilities.
m. Provides input re: equipment needs/supply needs.
n. Completes patient charges in accordance with facility procedure and per facility policy.
o. Demonstrates sound cost containment techniques.
6. Assists with housekeeping tasks as necessary to provide a safe environment for patient’s, teammates, physicians, guests.
7. Upholds and practices the principles and policies of the SCA Compliance program.
8. Performs all other duties as assigned by management.

D. Continuous Improvement:
9. Attends staff meetings and demonstrates review of minutes for any meetings missed.
10. Participates in scheduled performance appraisals and demonstrates dedication to ongoing performance improvement.

F. Proficiency or Productivity Standards

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Indoors in controlled climate. Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances. Occasional exposure to chemical hazards as well as the risk of blood borne diseases.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Lift up to 35 lbs. Good visual acuity. Ability to speak and hear. Ability to push and pull using a full range of body movement. Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, grasp and stand for extended periods of time.

MACHINES/EQUIPMENT USED: Dust mop, damp mop, bucket and wringer, cart, vacuum, high duster, scrubbing pads, putty knife.
