Facilities Executive (Engineering & Building Operations)

A skilled, highly service-oriented facilities executive with expertise in building operations management and engineering sought for a very challenging newly created executive level position. This position requires an exceptional people manager who has extensive experience building and managing successful building operations and engineering processes and teams. This individual must have experience evaluating current state and creating processes and procedures that have transformed operations. The ideal candidate will also have a long track record of building KPIs and managing by them ensuring the service areas of responsibility are operating efficiently, safely, are compliant, well-staffed, esthetically pleasing, and within budget. Exceptional project management skills are also required.

 

Through utilizing well-honed management, people, and communication skills, this position will bring multiple groups of individuals together to form a very cohesive team of top performing professionals. The ideal individual will have no tolerance for mediocre work or mediocre processes in addition to a superior ability to eliminate roadblocks that could stand in the way of achieving strategic goals.

 

Specifically, this position will:

• Manage, build, and mentor a team of high performing direct reports (area heads), ensure the correct staff are in place while developing cohesion between different functional areas, etc.

• Develop KPI’s and manage by them to determine successes and failures

• Determine current state of operations (what is unsafe, not working, inefficient, non-compliant, not aesthetically pleasing, not meeting service level agreements, etc.), utilize understanding of what “excellent looks like” to determine what needs to be changed and why, and drive successful changes throughout areas of responsibility.

• Manage departmental budgets with a keen understanding of what things cost and why

• Provide executive oversight of third party vendor relationships solving escalated problems or contractual issues effectively and immediately.

• Ensure compliance with all codes, governmental regulations, etc.

Requirements:

• At least 15 years of expertise managing building operations and the engineering functions. At least 5 of those years should be managing employees who are at the director or head level.

• Prior earlier career, hands-on experience as an engineer. Highly prefer candidates who have started their careers as an engineer (HVAC/electrical/mechanical) and have worked their way up the ranks to building operations management executive level positions. Must understand engineering lingo, etc.

• At least 10 years’ experience managing across multiple-campuses (or) one campus with numerous multi-use building (hospitals, office complexes, etc.)

• Proven experience building KPI’s and managing by them

• Strong project management background

• Service mentality is an absolute must! Must understand the value of the service provided and understand the needs of those that the service is being provided for.

• Proven ability to build and manage a budget

• Exemplary communicator with the ability to communicate at all levels. Direct, open, honest communicator that is not afraid to state the facts – good or bad.

• Exceptional eye for what “excellent looks like” having worked in modern buildings with “up to date” technology, systems, and processes.
