Financial Controller (Americas)
EDF Man has an opportunity for an experienced and high calibre Financial Controller to join a world leading trader of agricultural commodities within our 'Man Liquid Products Division' - MLP. Reporting to the Regional Finance Director and working with the North America President, the Commercial Trading Teams and our various subsidiary operations, this senior finance position offers a broad spectrum of opportunity, scope and commercial activity.
The successful candidate will cover the position of Financial Controller (Americas) supporting the coordination and financial management of our various operations in this region, including providing high quality analysis, review and decision support.
We are looking for an individual with the ability to develop into a future commercial leader and Regional Finance Director, able to help drive this recently expanded regional business forward. You must have experience of operating within a fast paced multinational, entrepreneurial trading and/or commercial environment. The successful individual will develop a solid understanding of the liquid products, storage and animal feed business and the impact that these operations have on financial reporting, cash funding and risk.
EDF Man Liquid Products Division is a leading global supplier of molasses and liquid products for animal feed, fermentation and other industrial uses. We provide the link between sugar mills and consumers in the animal feed and fermentation industries. We deliver a wide range of products into several distinct markets around the world and specialize in the sourcing, shipping, storage and distribution of molasses, molasses blends and co-products. The division includes the recently acquired Westway Feed Products business, one of the largest feed manufacturers in North America, mainly supplying the beef cattle, dairy cattle and equine feed sectors. We also manufacture and market a variety of other by-products from various industries, including from bio-fuel plants, distilleries, yeast plants, corn processors, soy processors, cheese factories and many other food and agri-business operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Direct the preparation and distribution of monthly financial statements/reports, and analyse/interpret the financial and operating results.
- Prepare monthly consolidated financial statements and related analysis for senior management.
- Manage the development and preparation of the annual budget, strategic plan and monthly forecasts.
- Assist the Regional Finance Director and Business Controllers with the preparation of benchmark reports and financial reporting packages.
- Coordinate, review and where appropriate prepare selected month-end general ledger account reconciliations.
- Assist with the preparation of tax provisions and coordinate external tax review and tax return preparation in conjunction with the Group Tax Director in London.
- Assist with cash and treasury management.
- Assist with the evaluation, analysis, due diligence and integration of acquisitions.
- Monitor profitability of all business lines.
- Manage the year-end and internal audit processes, and assist external audits.
- Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of operations.
- Research and support as necessary all accounting and reporting issues.
- Maximize the benefits of systems, including ITAS, Hyperion and Masterisk (in-house developed risk management tool)
- Understand the divisional trade flows, their impact on cash management, resource usage, statutory reporting and tax planning/optimization.
- Be able to answer and provide creative solutions to any business challenge that may be encountered within the division.
- Proactively gain an understanding of new accounting standards and their potential impact on the business unit’s results.
- Respond to ad-hoc reporting requests from the Regional Directors, CFO and CEO.
- Capital investment appraisals/monitoring and project management.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a controlling environment, preferably international.
- Commodity knowledge is important to the role, while leadership potential is essential.
- A degree in finance, economics or business administration. A professional accounting qualification (CPA or equivalent) or MBA highly desirable, as is experience of IFRS accounting standards.
- Able to apply knowledge and experience to provide robust commercial solutions.
- Candidate must possess strong communication and negotiation skills, with a ‘hands on’ highly visible and flexible style.
- Self-confident and self-motivated person able to prioritise and focus on the completion of key targets, and comfortable in a fast paced, growth oriented, results driven organization.
- MS-Excel, Word and Powerpoint skills must be proficient.
